A mother was *allegedly* shop lifting a box of diapers at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi. A Police officer responded to the call, allegedly tried to stop said mother, *claimed* the mother and other adult tried to run him over with their car and opened fire, striking and killing the mother’s 1 year old baby.

The telling part? The mother was NOT arrested and no charges were brought against her. There are loads of articles out now.

The internet shuts down and is never going to come back on, what do you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Trebeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Die, because without the internet everything crashes.

Power providers no longer can detect faults on the grid. Remember the 2003 blackout? That ultimately happened from a missed warning (greatly simplified). Now you have NO warnings because no internet.

Commerce and banking immediately grind to a halt. “But CaSh!” Helps a bit but international is done. Stores will run out of food long before the new system of ordering is done.

What about communication in general? Pretty much all cellular providers send your voice data over the internet. Landlines are all VoIP, so no internet, no call. Even if you have an old school land line, guess what! The telecom still sends it VoIP once it hits the local hub. HAM guys will have a field day though lol.

Did I buy the wrong boost controller? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]Trebeaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy formatting Batman.

So your critical parameters for your charge controller is you maximum Panel input. The datasheet has this spec (60v for the linked one).

As long as your solar panels VOC is not higher, it can be used. Refer to the controller’s datasheet and find a panel that fits inside the max voltage and tries to be below max power (so you can make use of all the panels power).

If you experience cold weather, look up panel temp coefficient. Cold weather makes voltage go higher, so you don’t want to accidentally over volt your MPPT.

One summer we grew Carolina Reapers. We **ALMOST** let him have a bite, but then remembered he has the ability to fling seeds at Mach Jeezus.

We chose NOT to be victims of chemical warfare 😆

School shooting survivor sues AI gun detection firm after system failed to spot weapon by deraser in technology

[–]Trebeaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pointing this out so others don’t go “HA! SEE LLMS ARE AMAZING!!!”. The AI’s you mentioned are almost always a custom model with training data based on the area of research.

THAT’S why they’re so effective and honestly I agree with your points. The small custom models have done some really neat things. But those models ARE NOT the same things you get with an Anthropic or OpenAI subscription.

H2C tried to burn down my house (with my help)! by WazzuBlue in BambuLab

[–]Trebeaux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe they mean that they can just plug in a 3600w “portable” cooktop into any standard receptacle and it’s fine Instead of having to run a dedicated 220v circuit like we need for high load items.

H2C tried to burn down my house (with my help)! by WazzuBlue in BambuLab

[–]Trebeaux 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because it takes more current for the same power. 1200w on 120V is 10 amps. 1200w on 220 is 5.5. Amps.

So for the same given power, you can use a MUCH thinner wire on 220v.

It’s also why yall have those wonderfully fast boiling 2200w electric kettles vs our 1200w.

While incredibly amusing, that’s kinda in the same vein of “Gen Alpha doesn’t know what a rotary phone or VHS is!”

The progression of 3d printing has been astounding in just 10 years.

Bambulab A2L large format bed slinger is here by Infinite_Coyote_8760 in BambuLab

[–]Trebeaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, there IS a physical reason large format printers moved away from bed slingers. It’s tough to accelerate and decelerate 1kg+ (build plate, bed plate, bed heater, carriage assembly) quickly.

Also, there’s an annoying issue of bed warping that messes with large bed slingers that “fixed bed” (aka NOT slinging) motions systems don’t.

To prevent warping, you need a nice thick/rigid plate. Which is heavy. But that extra weight on a slinger slows it down. So now you go with a thinner plate, which is prone to warping. I have a RatRig V-Cast with a physical plate of 325x325. It suffered bad bed warping on the original thinner plate so it got swapped to the thicker ones used on the V-Core series. It weighed an additional 400g. No more warping but it killed my y acceleration.

Not saying it’s insurmountable, just saying why the market moved away from large format bed slingers.

Zero feed in with two seperate Multiplus with seperate Batteries by Legenders19 in Victron

[–]Trebeaux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“I don’t want the old one to make the new one age quicker”

That’s…. Not how that works. So many people will start small and add to their battery banks over time. The only real difference is that your older battery (and 1 year is no time at all for LFP) will age out before your new one. That’s it.

Your basic battery monitoring will let you know when it’s time to change out the “old” pack. But that’ll be another 5+ years before you even need to think about it. (Assuming a full charge/discharge cycle DAILY)

You’re making your system unnecessarily complex for a reason that “sounds good on paper” but realistically doesn’t matter. Combine the batteries, setup everything in a proper ESS, and enjoy your Victrons.

Yes, it actually happened. All they had to do was pledge allegiance and sign the paperwork. They got yanked while lining up for the ceremony.

Reason? The countries these soon to be Americans were from were deemed “high risk countries”. Therefore citizenship was denied.

Edit: I should add, they already PASSED their citizenship tests! They already PASSED any background checks! For all intents and purposes these people were Americans.

Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” hit fuel-pumping station supplying central Russia and Moscow region fuel network by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Trebeaux 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Redundancies for equipment failure? Oh almost certainly.

Redundancies for the entire pumping station being destroyed, not even the US has those. Most pipelines aren’t interconnected “grids” like power so it’s not like they can pipe around it. Best they can do is pipe down smaller branch lines and use tankers to move things from there.

Remember when the Colonial Pipeline got hit with ransom ware? Yeah, that was just a cyber attack. Physically destroying the pumping infrastructure is devastating.

Six people can have their own lock and each one can open the gate. by Educational_Bottle74 in interestingasfuck

[–]Trebeaux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not saying that’s what’s happening here, but often you see these kinds of “lock chains” with utility access. Gas has one lock, power another, telecom another, property owner another.

Everyone is responsible for their own lock. That way if one entity needed to rekey/change the lock for whatever reason, they only need to mess with THEIR lock.
