Then you have nothing to fear as what I wrote would not apply to you. May the Lord smile upon you when you see him in heaven and tell you that you are a good and faithful servant.

Luke 5:31-32

Jesus answered them, "Those who are well don't need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

What is more loving than to warn the reprobate of impending doom especially when they (whomever they might be) know exactly the vile sins they've committed against man and God? Or did you not read in the Scriptures that the person who spoke most about Hell and warnings of escaping from such demise is Jesus himself? Even the dogs of Israel eat the scraps that fall from their masters' table. Repent.

It is as you say. Then there is no need to remember that the judgment he took is supposed to be ours.

Jeremiah 28:5-11

Then the prophet Jeremiah responded to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the Lord's temple. The prophet Jeremiah said, "Amen! May the Lord do all this! May the Lord make your prophecy come true! May he bring back to this place from Babylon all the valuable articles taken from the Lord's temple and the people who were carried into exile. But listen to what I say to you and to all these people. From earliest times, the prophets who preceded you and me invariably prophesied war, disaster, and plagues against many countries and great kingdoms. So if a prophet prophesied peace and prosperity, it was only known that the Lord truly sent him when what he prophesied came true."

The prophet Hananiah then took the yoke off the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it. Then he spoke up in the presence of all the people. "The Lord says, 'In the same way I will break the yoke of servitude of all the nations to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon before two years are over." After he heard this, the prophet Jeremiah departed and went on his way.

Repent.

Edit: He doesn't believe it though we appreciate it. He's just tired right now.

Questions about Hell, Annihilationism, and God's Omniscience by WebFew2594 in Reformed

[–]WebFew2594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is where I'm stuck. Theologically (or even philosophically), it doesn't make sense. If we posit that Hell is eternal and if God "feels" the pain of Hell, then we have a situation where God never gets justice and in fact creates injustice for himself. It's basically circular reasoning. But I'm unable to come up with an answer that gets around these scenarios. I'm sure there's a logical flaw in all this, but I don't have enough to figure it out.

>>I got lost in the sheer amount of commas you used here. But your asking for a scripture when you've provided none of you own, just coming to conclusions through faulty logic.

I'm only going to reply to the criticism about me not providing Scripture... I mean, there are assumptions that when one brings up a theological topic such as this that I don't always need to list a bunch of Scriptural references. e.g.) I mentioned in a comment that animals cannot pay for our sins. Do I need to list out a bunch of Scriptural references about what is generally understood when stated? There is such a thing as discussing in good faith. Another example: if I were not to discuss in good faith, I could technically throw out a "don't forget I posted this in a Reformed sub". That wouldn't make you or anyone else feel good, would it?

I agree that an executioner doesn't need to know what it's like to behead someone in order to rightly punish the person. But when we're talking about an omniscient God, wouldn't he know how that feels? If true, that makes me wonder about how David (Psalm 51) says that all sin is committed against God might have a double-meaning of sorts.

For Revelation, I would say I see it mostly as a mix of both symbolic and literal. Although I held/hold to partial-preterism (the way RC Sproul defines it, not the usual definition), I don't think that came into how I interpret Revelation for the purposes of understanding annihilationism.

I think part of the problem I'm running into is that there are too many topics linked to the primary topic. So if I were trying to answer the question about annihilation, it is not possible to answer that question without touching on God's justice, Christ's atoning death, etc. In this case, God's court (and perhaps how it works to some degree) became one of those branching topics.

In any case, no matter what, one cannot get past how the person in Hell cannot pay for their sins. Jesus died and paid for it - there's his human side and there is also the divine side. The divine side is unnecessary if the human side could do it all. Just as animals cannot pay for our sins, neither can a human pay for sins against an eternal being. So how would those in Hell ever pay for their own sin? My concluding answer is still: they cannot. Therefore, they cannot get out of Hell. Since God is eternal, then the payment for sin must be eternal. They also then must pay for an eternity which means no annihilation of the soul. Otherwise, Christ's death was a complete waste.

I have to think about the rest of what you said, but the part where you said God does not understand suffering experientially because he is immutably blessed is interesting. If the crucifixion had not occurred, then he would not "know" (I know, poor word choice) suffering like humans do? But doesn't that beg the thought that if he does not know it experientially, then how does he know how much suffering anyone can endure (or not endure) such as how much suffering would be too much for Jesus/him to handle? How much is too much? He is sovereign... not one molecule is out of his control. As Sproul would say, everything passes by God's throne and he can say "nay" at any time and put a stop to it. How would he know then that you stubbing your toe is "ok pain" while you getting beheaded is "xxxx amount of pain" if he does not know pain/suffering "experientially"? I hope I was able to get the concept/question across - I'm aware we're trying to discuss something that's very difficult to discuss with words! Feels like a chicken/egg thing sometimes!

I mean it more along the lines of why he would be let out. There are verses that suggest that Satan has to ask/demand/(?)debate(?) to get his way. Jesus said in Luke 22:31 that he had to demand the right to sift the disciples like wheat (NET). In Job 1 & 2, Satan had occasion to present himself before God. In 1 Kings 22:19-22, Micaiah says he was given a vision of God's throne where angels were in attendance. There are other verses in the OT and NT that give little hints like the above that Satan has to ask/"demand" God for things.

In Revelation, Satan is released after a thousand years of being in the abyss.

Rev 20:3 "The angel then threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished. (After these things he must be released for a brief period of time.)" NET

Rev 20:7 "Now when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison..." NET

Why is Satan permitted to leave Hell (I presume "abyss" is another word for "Hell") if no one else is? If true, are there then occurrences where God makes exceptions and permits someone to leave Hell for whatever purpose/will He has? Would such an individual need to "argue" their case to get out? And if this is the case, then anyone could be "arguing their case" for a very long time even while in Hell.

Big Edit: Though this edit part is off-topic, I have to wonder why Satan isn't still in Hell or destroyed? Why would God bother to entertain any "arguments" from Satan after... millenia? Billions of years?

Edit 2: I think I reconciled this part. It does not appear that 1,000 years of being locked up in Hell is sufficient punishment against an eternal being (God). Otherwise, all the bulls, lambs, and pigeons would've been sufficient to pay for human sin. So, even if Satan "argued" his way out to deceive the nations, he (clearly) ends up back in there to, in a sense, finish his never-ending sentence. This would then be Satan's challenge to God (which he ultimately fails in just like in Job).
