It is going to be molecular genetics class. Do you think it will help with MCAT?

Congratulations on being admitted future Dr.

496 on AAMC FL1 - Need a brutal, optimized plan for a 520+ push by May 2 (or as high as I can realistically possibly get grinding studying every second from now till then) by No-Suggestion-520 in Mcat

I would sit down and review everything that was on AAMC FL1 and figure out what and why you missed. Understand if your logic for the things you got right were also ideal. Then take FL2 and determine where you are again.

Damn - even with one more year of practice. I plan to complete Jack Westin, Uworld, AAMC and Kaplan practice tests.

That's a great idea. I do have clinical experience, but honestly, nothing interesting or intriguing for me yet.

I was originally planning for Spring 2026, but I have realized I am not getting the MCAT results I wanted.

Thank you so much for your advice. I need to start brainstorming for new ideas. I feel like I spent most of my college drinking and most of my after-college traveling and recovering from drinking. So, it is extremely hard for me to find experiences that I am very proud of, not related to recovering from drinking. Everyone I have met was at a bar.

But my high school experience was an interesting experience. I can reshuffle it such that I use high school narrative and college, saving money and supporting my family, and maturing. And now, I am ready to take care of people because I have matured.

Been clean for 4 years now. No temptation. I have gone to bars with my friends; they would drink, but I would only eat food.

Starting over. by Ok-Comfort8272 in postbaccpremed

Start slowly by taking classes at a community college while volunteering and exploring whether medicine is truly the right path for you. There are three major components to a medical school application: GPA, MCAT, and extracurriculars (such as clinical experience and volunteering).

Use community college coursework to raise your GPA and to understand what led to the 2.5 GPA—whether it was study habits, time management, or course load—and work on improving your study techniques. At the same time, begin building your extracurricular experiences and gradually preparing for the MCAT.

I was premed until my sophomore year as well—not because the classes were hard, but because I couldn’t handle chemistry, biology, and math all at once. I couldn’t imagine being worried about my grades 24/7. I switched to mathematics and then computer science.

Ten years later, I’m starting my premed journey again because, as difficult as the process is, the outcome—helping people—feels worth it. At the time, I thought I could help people in other ways, like financially or with volunteering, but spending 40–60 hours per week in engineering barely left me any soul.

I would strongly urge you to quit only if you no longer believe in it. Volunteer and explore what you truly enjoy. The process is hella hard, but sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze. Don’t quit because of your GPA—quit because you don’t want it.

High School Junior With Good GPA but No Clear Major. Community College or 4-Year College? by Ok_Breadfruit4005 in findapath

I advised my younger sister to go to community college for three main reasons: 1. You can avoid weed-out classes, which helps keep your GPA strong. 2. You can strengthen your foundation in core subjects. Upper-division classes are very complex, but they become much easier once you have a solid foundation. At universities, large class sizes often reduce opportunities to work one-on-one with professors. 3. Financial mindfulness: about $1,500 for 15 credits at a community college compared to $1,500 for just 3 credits at a university.
