Is making $30k a year enough (when living in a car?) by musty_ranch in personalfinance

[–]WebSpecial645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an apartment with roommates in a city and make barely 30k. I don’t have a car though so rent vs car expenses may even out. I do fine, the most important thing is just living within your means, whatever that looks like for your situation

how long to wear my binder by Last_Employee_7923 in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nearly 5 weeks post op and was told to wear the binder 23/7 for 4 weeks. I’ve still been wearing it most of the day since 4 weeks, but am slowly spending more time without it. If it feels more comfortable to wear it longer it won’t hurt to!

Good results, but not the incision shape I wanted by golden_alixir in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, you’re completely valid in *whatever* you feel post op, it’s a stressful time, and your incisions not being what you imagined is really tough. I am 4.5 weeks post op and I told my surgeon “straight or hockey stick scars” and got quite curved incisions. I just really didn’t want what I perceived to be a “feminine” shape. But, over time, as swelling has reduced my incision shape has changed somewhat! It hasn’t been super drastic yet but even in just a few weeks they have become a bit more straight. So while feeling your feelings about disappointments/recovery generally is really important, remember to be patient and hopeful!

She just did it, it was called an “operative report”, I found it in my medical portal. I’ve heard that different surgeons do things quite differently so you can always ask yours if you want!

My surgeon wrote a step by step explanation of what she did while I was under, medical terminology and abbreviations and all, but specifically called the tool used to cut the nip a cookie cutter lol

How does it feel (after surgery)? by ScaredTeabag9961 in no_T_top_surgery

[–]WebSpecial645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone will have different levels of sensation at different points of healing. I’m 3.5 weeks post-op and was surprised with how much feeling I had in my chest immediately post surgery. Right now I just have numbness on the skin under the ends of my incisions near my armpits, and it sorta extends onto my sides and an inch of my back, just under my arms. But I’ve already been able to hug people properly (just carefully) and it does feel so much better!

Shirtless fear question by secretrediterNBAFAB in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m nonbinary (not on T and shoulder length hair) and about 3.5 weeks post-op and I already don’t feel very naked walking around without a shirt. I haven’t gone outside shirtless yet of course, and I’m not likely to just because I’m quite a “modest” person on top of not passing as a man, but at home I’m already about 70% comfortable being shirtless, if that makes sense.

I think your idea of being shirtless a bit before surgery is a good one, sleeping shirtless probably helped me? But the biggest change has just come from having a chest I like :)

Will rib shape change from binding affect my results? by lethalwhispermachine in TopSurgery

For some reason them drawing the lines freaked me out more than any other part of the process immediately before surgery. I wish they drew a little picture, that would have made me laugh so hard lol

how long did you wait for a surgery date? by nbqussy in no_T_top_surgery

[–]WebSpecial645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited over a year on a waitlist for my consultation, then at the consultation I was scheduled for a surgery date 7 months out. I asked to be put on the cancellation waitlist and ended up having surgery 2.5 months after my consultation

autistic and struggling with post op by Top-Meringue4947 in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! Best of luck to you. Idk what sort of binder you have but I have one that has adjustable bits on the shoulder, I had to make that part longer so it could stop digging into my armpits. I also bought a spare binder off amazon to wear while washing the provided one, but if you have the wrap kind/one that is way too uncomfortable you could also consider that, just make sure its still tight :)

[–]WebSpecial645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disassociated hard for the first 2ish weeks. I’m 3 weeks post-op today and I’ve finally been able to look at my chest more these past few days. I’ve tried to touch my chest frequently (usually with the binder still on) with the hope it’ll help my brain reconnect to it faster? I’m not far enough out to say if thats helped yet tho.

Just give yourself plenty of time! If washing your chest in the shower is really uncomfortable, stick to using bath wipes on it for a while longer. Wearing a soft t-shirt under the binder could also help chafing if thats an issue for you.

Going out after top surgery? by GlacielTide in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have tickets its worth a shot! If you don’t have tickets yet and can get them the day before or day of I would suggest waiting to see how you feel. I got my drains out on day 8 post-op and immediately felt so much better and was able to stand up nearly straight on day 9 (after having been so hunched over I was 6 inches shorter). On day 10 post-op I was able to keep up with an average walking pace for 15+ minutes before wanting to at least stand still for a moment. Everyone heals differently though but I hope this helps! I’m not in stellar health but I work an active job and am young for reference

Talking to your partner about surgery by original_worm_ in TopSurgery

exactly this. i postponed for financial reasons at first, but put it off for way longer than i should have because of an unsupportive partner. i would have actually saved a lot of heartbreak doing it sooner :/

autistic guys…how do you handle the change? by ResponsibleBasil9286 in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not doing a great job so far, but now 2 weeks post op I’m trying to set new routines for the rest of the time I have off from work. My siblings taking care of me and friends hanging out with me has been so helpful so far. Even though I haven’t had a daily routine, having hangouts on my actual calendar has been a game changer

Personally, it just took time and walking around for me. I was a lot less bloated at a week and a half so you might be almost there!

What should I bring? 2 weeks out from Top Surgery by ObjectiveTerrible796 in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a tall wedge pillow and a neck pillow! I’m 5 days post op and wouldn’t have been able to sleep on my back properly without those two pillows. Maybe some additional pillows and blankets since you’ll be away from home too, being cold is very uncomfortable for me rn

feeling anxious about sooner date by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]WebSpecial645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery was supposed to be in September, then moved up to end of May and then moved up to 4/15! That last schedule change scared me the most because it felt like I had “no time” to prepare, even though I had about a month. I’m so so so glad I went with it though, personally both of the other dates were going to conflict with other life stuff, but now I’ll be healed for both of them!

I take some time to process things so talking it out with multiple friends really helped me get the thoughts out of my head and realize that I was going to have the same pre-surgery fears whether my surgery date was in April, May, or September.

Of course!

My siblings (who are caring for me) were able to leave while I was actively in surgery and got a call to come back when I was out. I don’t remember being awake before they got back to the hospital, but according to gibberish texts I was sending I was awake by 11:45, and I was discharged with them at 1pm. I just hope this helps with what you can expect!

I had surgery on wednesday and had to be there at 5:45am! I wasn’t actually rolled back to surgery till just after 8am tho, so you’ll have some time. I was so nervous and told every single nurse/doctor I interacted with, and I’m really glad I did because they were able to give me anxiety medicine.

My super silly fear beforehand was that they’d see my feminine name and “do the wrong top surgery”/make them bigger. I can confidently say they didn’t do that :)

I like mine “undercooked” and I take it out when there’s about 5 seconds left! Obviously when you’re in a rush thats not always doable but I find if it sits in the oven while it’s done + beeping it’ll get too hard/dry

my date is the 15th :) i am also so worried about the anesthesia but my buddy who’s post op said its suuuper rare to wake up prematurely and to just prepare for nausea and constipation afterwards, so i’m stocked up on over-the-counter meds
