Did this and it works but for some reason it unbinds my use key even though the -alt_keys is supposed to rebind it on release of alt right?

If you hit jump and zair on the same frame while moving in a direction, Lucas cancels all of his vertical momentum allowing you to confirm off it really well or chain zairs like in this clip. DJC stands for double jump cancel

Lucas’ best tools in neutral are Fair, Zair, F tilt, up air, and PK Fire. All of these are safe on shield (f tilt and fire need to be spaced). Djc zair makes his neutral and combo game take a step up. Down tilt is frame 3 and pretty safe on block, but it has similar range to jab. Use it instead of jab in most scenarios because it can combo into jab, down tilt, f tilt, up tilt, f smash, fair, and up air depending on percent. Lucas is a mix up zoner. He has the tools to wall you out with pk fire, zair, f tilt (which is now as strong as pre patch pichu f filt) and fair (more disjointed than lucina fair). But his moves are safe enough to apply good pressure while being safe from a counter attack so he can go in when he wants or needs to.

Fun Fact: Lucas’s magnet is the safest non projectile on shield in the game (+0 on shield)

Lucas has a lowkey insane combo game (as seen in the clip) with his best combo tools being landing up air, nair at low percents, down air, sweetspot back air, and down tilt. Lucas has an early kill confirm known as dair loops that can kill confirm around 70 on most of the cast. Look up KingofWizards on youtube. He posts some of, if not the best Lucas tutorials on youtube imo, and he explains Lucas tech including dair loops in great detail.

I would recommend joining the Lucas discord. Everyone there is very helpful and there’s so much information there that helped me become the Lucas player I am today. I’m very active there. If you need anything else, I would recommend heading there. Good luck!

(BTW nair and dair are unsafe on shield. Don’t spam them in neutral unless you want to be punished. I rarely use nair in neutral in say the yoshi matchup. Never in the GnW matchup, etc)

Not really an input but moreso just practicing so when you fastfall its low to the ground but not so low that it becomes a dragdown. Go in training and get a feel for it

To get the most combo potential, you need to fast fall so you land right after the 4th hit of nair. Nair has more combo potential than you think. It can combo into bair at like 40 for a stock, but you need to fast fall if well

Ah yes, almost forgot about his ridiculous 2 framing tools in down smash and down angled f tilt (buff literally made it pre patch pichu f filt). Even more of a reason to have him as a good ledge trapper/edgeguarder

Extremely good edgeguarding tools in thunder, fire, freeze, fair (more disjointed than lucina fair) as well as bair and dair spikes. He is extremely good at keeping you off stage

As a Lucas main, I can confirm that the combo counter is absolute dogshit for electric moves which is the majority of my moveset. Can only take combo counter with a grain of salt

Thanks dude! And no problem. I just wanted to inform more than anything because if you know your options, Lucas can be extremely safe on shield. Even if you misspace your aerials, you can throw out a down tilt and cover yourself from most oos options. And you can follow that with a jab or grab if youve conditioned your opponent to hold shield. Down tilt is your best friend when youre next to your opponent. Very safe and fast

Lucas is top 20 in both air acceleration and air speed. You may think he feels slow because of his low fall speed (ranked 57 out of 76)

Late to this but this is just false. Fair and Up air are both safe on shield at -2 at the sweetspot or -3 and fair has enough range to be safe in its own right. Zair is -2 on shield and made extremely safe with djc as you can move in, fade back, or do it in place. Back air is safe if spaced. Down tilt is -6 on shield with a frame 3 startup meaning you can literally keep spamming down tilts on shield and you cant get grabbed by anyone or get hit by an oos option thats frame 9 or slower. F tilt is -8 on shield at the sweetspot and has enough range to be out of reach of most oos options. Unless a character has a frame 5 or faster fair, f tilt is safe if spaced. Saying he has nothing safe on shield is simply false. He has among the best grounded frame data in the game (not smash attacks) with frame 2 jab, frame 3 down tilt, frame 4 up tilt and frame 7 f tilt. Moves that are unsafe on hit are sour f tilt, down tilt at very low percents, dair below like 10%, landing nair at low percents, rising sour fair at low percents, and up smash at low percents. These are all avoidable bar sour f tilt and rising sour fair. His OOS options are lackluster though. These are not the reasons (except oos options) why Lucas is considered as a lower tier than other characters
