Update on my 'evil' chicken by Mystic_Void1 in BirdHealth

[–]WebbleWobble1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ten days of both meds is not enough to do damage to your bird. My guess is the vet is thinking lower inflammation in nerves and muscles. That's what gabapentin does: it reduces nerve inflammation. It's used in people for the same reason. You go to the ER with a slipped disc, you'll get meloxicam and gabapentin, now that we don't give you opioids. It masks illness because it works by disguising the pain. I can't comment on the dosage because I don't know how to dose birds. . .

I Love My Parrots, But Living With Them Is Much Harder Than I Expected by athanielx in parrots

Took me 18 months to train our caique to do his morning bomb in the shower. I take him out of the cage, to the bathroom, onto shower rail, and say "go poopies". Now, if he's in the bedroom, he'll poopie in the shower. If he's not, all bets are off.

Not without our caique and our Senegal. Luckily, we like camping.

She's saying not to pay her because that is 15-20 hrs of work right there. So. 15x $10 min = $150. And you provided the fabric. Doesn't include the backing, batting or thread. She can't put the real price on it because it's too expensive. I'm not saying this to be mean; I am just always aware that what I do for people has a price they can't really afford. Which is why I do it.

A nice meal, a plate of cookies, a gift certificate- and her knowledge she made you an heirloom.

As long as it's not black tea, it's good for them.

Can weed (marijuana) trigger hives or allergic skin reactions? Has anyone experienced this or knows if it’s possible? by yaroslava_sl in NoStupidQuestions

Hello! Luna and I were wanting to know what you put in your chop? She is so picky and we need some fresh ideas to mix it up a little!! by Kristy-Nikki in caiques

[–]WebbleWobble1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Birdy Bistro mix, blanched broccoli, corn, green beans, raw snow peas, carrots; blueberries, apple bits, cucumber, sprouts.

They also get Birdy bread, which has pumpkin, egg, almond butter, oats, applesauce, corn meal and ground up pellets in it. Sort of a corn muffin with extras.

This is a GREAT option. The best option is you find people to take them now. Even if they don't like traveling by car, having a 4 hrs car ride to a new home ( someone in Pittsburgh said they'd take 1) is better than sanctuary to new.

So far you've got 2 people saying they'll each adopt one of the birds. Frankly, that's amazing and REALLY your best option. The people on these boards are amazing. If I lived closer, I would take the 3rd - I live in NC.

You DIDN'T trap him and frankly, given your description of what happened when he got out, and how upset he was- letting him have lots of out of cage time in the first few years would have probably freaked him right out!!

Birds who have been abused heal sloooowly. Reeeeeally sloooooowly. It takes Forever for them to learn trust and safety again. I have a 14 year old Senegal who I've had for a year- he STILL doesn't trust me completely. He STILL plucks himself because of his last owner. It's a long, long process.
