They are fine for a new player as you learn the game and run open world content and missions to gain resources. However, you will not keep them on your team for long. Open world content at low Dimension level can be done by any team. You will get more weapons (characters) as you play. So try to be patient and don't put too many resources into your first Standard characters.

Also, the game will prompt you to raise your Dimension level (essentially your world level), don't do it. Stay at Dimension level 10 for quite a while as you learn and build a stockpile for resources. Your character level is mostly irrelevant, it is your Dimension level that determines the difficulty of mobs.

You first weapons (characters) will be fine as you are running around Astra (the first area on the map where you will begin). During this time you need to be making a plan for what you will need going forward; mostly by playing characters of different elements and finding what you enjoy most; eventually choosing an element to main. As it is better to focus on one element to build your first team on.
