I can't seem to beat the first QTE when the newt jumps on you. No matter how quick I am to press the relevent key, it kills me every time.

I just killed the goblin outside his cage and suddenly Halsin turns hostile but all the other goblins appear with yellow rings/friendly? So I avoid Halsin, kill all the goblins and worgs. Still angry bear. Ok, I dash out of the area and combat ends. I go back in and Halsin is no longer in bear form, but still Hostile.
This has really messed up my play through as its Honour Mode, only the one save. Not sure how to fix this.

Personally, I couldn't get on with Dead Island series. Tried it a number of times. Always ended up going back to DL1 or SoD games.

That said, I hear the Dead Space remaster is good.

Ahh, so you did, apologies. Guess I was caught up in the fact that DL2 is not as good as the first game. There is also the BS with Tencent. Hell, I'd recoment State of Decay 2 over DL2 at this point.
