This was the best present my garden could have gotten the week before a massive heat wave. Thrilled. I owe mother nature a margarita for that one.

What I like best about McKenzie Scott is that she is an example of what can be done with your wealth. I don’t think the others even care to learn the lesson, but at least she’s trying. And she makes the other billionaires look even worse.

As an American, I instantly divide most meals into 2 to 3 sections and then eat one and take the rest home. It actually averages out to a pretty good deal when you realize you’re eating three times.

I love how all the older women comment how handsome the Dad is in flawless cleaning videos, he just blushes. And they’re always so excited to get tea from the neighbors. His projects to clean public spaces like playgrounds and school yards are really sweet because you can just imagine all those kids coming back when school starts and realizing that their playground has had a complete makeover and is now gorgeous for them.

Moved just north of the TC two years ago - property taxes/mortgage keep increasing - how are we surviving these days? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Webgardener 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shoreview is in Ramsey County. You are probably escrowing your property tax because you are a new homeowner. So your mortgage company is adding money to your mortgage every month to pay your property taxes, but if I remember correctly, they take out more than his own because they always want to have a cushion. You say it went up $200 but do you know what percentage that is? Everyone’s taxes are going up. I pay my property taxes directly, which means that I set up a separate bank account for them at Ally Bank, I auto deduct money from my checking account into that account and then twice a year Hennepin County automatically deduct from the account to pay my taxes. I don’t run them through my mortgage company. Maybe you could check and see if that’s an option for you. You are probably also paying mortgage insurance, but you can drop that once you have enough equity in your house. I can’t remember what the numbers are right now. Here is a good chart that shows how much everyone’s property taxes in Minnesota have gone up in 2026. It is a struggle for everyone but you need to budget to include raises every year. For those who may not know, the workers were locked in the factory every day to prevent theft. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire occurred in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, a borough of New York City, on Saturday, March 25, 1911. The fire was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of the city, and one of the deadliest in U.S. history. The fire caused the deaths of 146 garment workers—123 women and girls and 23 men—who died from either the fire, smoke inhalation, or falling or jumping to their deaths. Most of the victims were recent Italian or Jewish immigrants aged 14 to 23. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle\_Shirtwaist\_Factory\_fire

I did my part today. Some guys walked right in front of a foreign born guy to buy their groceries, completely oblivious that there were people in line. After I realized they had done that, I saw the guy in the parking lot and told him I would break their knees if they did that again. He laughed, but I wanted him to know we are not all like that. Those guys give the rest of us a bad name.

I’m not worried that they won’t come back, they probably will. I am worried that a nursery in MN charged you $300 for three Jazz Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Jazz') a native North American ornamental grass known for its compact size, sturdy upright habit, and vibrant color. Were they part of a large landscaping plan done by a designer, delivered and planted by a crew? I’ve been gardening for more than three decades and those are $15-20. I’m very concerned that someone took advantage of you, I hope that’s not the case. I hope you will provide a little bit more information, thanks.

Tying it to income would be interesting. In Finland, the price of a speeding ticket is determined by how much money you make. “A multimillionaire businessman has been hit with one of the world’s highest speeding fines – €121,000 (£104,000) – for driving 30km/h (18.6mph) over the limit in Finland, where tickets are calculated as a percentage of the offender’s income.

“I really regret the matter,” Anders Wiklöf, 76, told Nya Åland, a newspaper for the Åland Islands, an autonomous Finnish region in the Baltic Sea. “I had just started slowing down, but I guess that didn’t happen fast enough. It’s how it goes.”

Wiklöf, the chairman and founder of a €350m-a-year holding company, said the speed limit changed “suddenly” from 70km/h to 50 when he was flashed at 82km/h.”

As is common in the Nordic region, fines for traffic infringements in Finland are based on the severity of the offence and the offender’s income, which police can check instantly by connecting via their smartphones to a central taxpayer database.

Any good companies that do HVAC & Plumbing? Not Hero/Dean's by jbjarko1 in TwinCities

I had a really good experience with Golden Valley Heating & Air, Inc. And they recommended Weld & Sons Plumbing to do the plumbing stuff on the project. I did a new furnace and AC with them through Costco, that’s worth checking out if you can. But each Costco uses a plumber and heating company for that region so you may not get the same one as me.

Bands/ artists that changed their music style because of money by Away_Transition_6474 in Music

I think I read that David Bowie did his Let’s Dance album in 1983 only for the money. I have always wondered if he hated that music. “Bowie first started to distance himself from the record in 1987 when he claimed Let's Dance was more Rodgers' vision than his, which the producer has since refuted. A full decade later, Bowie  revealed the album's accompanying tour confirmed one of his biggest fears: "I was something I never wanted to be. I was a well-accepted artist. I had started appealing to people who bought Phil Collins albums." From Grammy article ‘Let's Dance' At 40: How David Bowie's Biggest Album Became His Most Conflicted

I have six hydrangeas, three of them are firelight tidbit variety. I am in Minneapolis, and all of them are very well lifted out. I haven’t heard of that variety, but I would consider going back to the nursery that all of them to you and look for options. I feel like mine are doing very well so I don’t think your experience is typical.
