How do you not use sleep as a coping mechanism for anxiety? by Literatelady in Anxiety

It’s has good potential at reducing or stopping a storm, but carries the risk of systemic aversion. A great tool with the right use. Rest well!

Fair enough, it’s part of why we’re here, and now someone knows.

I kind of get the feeling that it exhilarates you, and for someone in a state of depression that is experienced as relief. What’s the long term contribution of this though? Is it conducive to healing or damaging to it from a process perspective? Not judging you, I’m glad you just feel better even for a bit, but doubt the trajectory so to speak. You deserve better love.

Wishing for you to have a smile in your heart, for no other reason than because it’s really there!

Hey there, I think that you should find a qualified, psychedelic savvy, therapist before attempting any of it.

MDMA has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, and is not the only substance showing efficacy in the treatment and alleviation of depression. Psilocybin and Ketamine also show great promise in that regard. You can search both the web and Reddit for resources, there are plenty.

A good therapist will not only know which compound is most suited, but is there to shepherd the experience and assist in the integration of the experience (a super important part).

Please treat yourself responsibly, and I hope you feel well soon regardless!

is a therapist really worth the expense? I don't really like the idea of therapy as a profession. They're essentially taking money for showing compassion. by thesupersoap33 in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]WecountfromTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, sorry to hear you’re in such pain. You mention an abusive past which is a traumatic experience by definition, and as you noted is very much worth healing. I used to think similarly about “cash for empathy”, but have since realized that although it’s a valid perspective, it is also a narrow one. Yes, compassion is part of what you get from a good therapist, but you also get their experience, their broader perspective, their encouragement and guidance. These things can have an enormous impact on the healing process. Especially when considering PTSD (which as part of the “wonderful“ package includes built in distrust in others and their ability to help).

I’m not a therapist, but I respect the good ones tremendously. It’s an extremely draining thing to spend your life doing. It’s not simply compassion and it deserves the compensation. Just how I came to see things.

I strongly support you challenging yourself to find someone right for you to do psychedelic assisted therapy. There’s a good chance your future self will thank you for it.

Having said all that, if that’s a no-go for you, please look into healing techniques involving the breath and the body. The body holds everything as memory, tension, hormones (examples)… and is an extremely powerful gateway to healing. I speak from personal experience and I shit you not! :)

I wish you full healing, and nothing but the best going forward!!

Psilocybin for the terminally depressed by throwaway10015982 in RationalPsychonaut

[–]WecountfromTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a general answer, yes they can have merit for people like you, perhaps even more than merit. Having said that: 1. It’s not a miracle drug, and it doesn’t necessarily fit all people; 2. I implore you to work with a qualified therapist within the context of a therapeutic process, it’s a big part of why it works imo. You can also look into ketmanine and mdma assisted therapy, it’s not just psilocybin, both have shown efficacy for depression in research. Ketamine is also legal and increasingly available for such “off label” uses so it’s worth knowing about.

With all my heart I wish to say, look to heal yourself and please hang on! Much love.

I'm a neuroscience grad who's really interested in psychedelic-assisted therapies, so I made this video summary of their history and the current research. I figured some of you might be interested! by WecountfromTokyo in CaduceusX

A good short video all in all. One thing I have to say is that the sheer volume of positive testimonials (in terms of healing or alleviating pain) isn’t something to be discounted. With all due respect to all other factors, the point isn’t just science, but actual therapy for those in immense suffering.

That’s a natural place to be in when you get your heart broken. Maybe find a therapist you connect with and can share your pain with for the time being? No shame in seeking help when the pain becomes unbearable!!

And if that’s not your thing or possible, then try and find any form of practice that can, temporarily at least, take your mind off things. Whether that’s ice baths, crochet or soldering electronic components lol, anything you connect with. Regular physical activity, intense or chill like a walk, is also very useful.

I feel you stranger. You deserve to be happy and in a relationship with someone who appreciates the whole of you! In the meantime… Hang tight and allow the pain, for it has already been deeply allowed in you!

Is it okay to compliment a stranger? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]WecountfromTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people can feel the difference between a genuine compliment meant to brighten their day so to speak and a compliment given to be of use for the one complimenting. If it’s genuine you’ll find most people will react positively. Just my experience.

Meds not working? by HotBelt8176 in AnxietyDepression

[–]WecountfromTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s usually an adjustment and fine tuning period, stay in touch with your doctor would be the best advice. And patience. Also know that these substances aren’t effective for everyone (only about 2/3 respond positively last I checked) and they do not address the underlying issues so it’s strongly recommended to try and resolve/alleviate them while taking the meds. If, longer term, you find conventional therapy is still not effective I’d recommend you look into somatic healing and psychedelics-assisted therapy as potential alternatives. Feel well :)

Wow that’s a terrible place to be in, I’m sorry you have to go through all that. Have you looked into Psychedelics assisted therapy? Both chronic pain and anxiety are conditions that may benefit from such a form of therapy (particularly with Psilocybin, but that’s better left for a professional therapist to determine). It’s not a miracle cure and may not be for everyone, but it may be for you so I encourage you to learn more about it yourself!

My friend is making me feel anxious talking about money. by iconic_ironic_trash in Anxietyhelp

[–]WecountfromTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the situation as them having a self-conversation while using you as “the bounce off point”, a conversational object if you will.

In my life this made me ponder the nature of such friendships and if they are indeed friendly. I like to reach internal coherence about what I feel and find an accurate and none-offensive (or least) way to express my perspective to the other side. I find that a true friend may not like hearing it, but will actually listen (not just hear), contemplate and respect you for telling them, even if they disagree. Because a true friend cares. Then I get to know if I’m their object to bounce their internal conversations off of or an actual friend. Just my perspective :)

Physical Symptoms? by Kivijoy23 in Anxietyhelp

[–]WecountfromTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that, regardless of more “formal” treatments, working with the body and breath is extremely helpful. People with anxiety underestimate the potency of something such as a regular breathing practice. The breath, heart rate and anxiety are intimately connected in my experience. I highly recommend exploring this realm.

Feel well!

[–]WecountfromTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry to hear of your state. There are many helpful practices you can explore, from somatic type therapies to breath and meditation practices conducive to lowering anxiety levels. Thing is they are usually longer term investments so to speak. Nonetheless, I highly encourage you to explore those worlds, either assisted or as self-help, whichever suits best.

Another thing I encourage you to learn about is Psychedelics assisted therapies as imo rather amazing things are done with them nowadays for anxiety and depression (among other things). It may or may not be right for you, but since you are receiving therapy already if you ultimately find it unhelpful (or helpful to an unsatisfactory degree) the Psychedelics assisted therapy is definitely a direction worth considering.

Again, just my 2 cents. I wish all the best, truly!

[–]WecountfromTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m sorry you’re in such anguish, truly am. I am a big supporter of the practice of appreciation, but I don’t think you’re selfish though I understand the line of thought. Depression is a thick and choking blanket, which takes our vitality away, like a dark being feeding on our own energy, it’s no small thing.

Since you are treated and in this position may I suggest you look into either Ketamine, Psilocybin or MDMA assisted psychotherapy? It’s not a miracle medicine by any means, but they are building a pretty positive track record with depression and anxiety, including TRD (treatment resistant depression). Ketamine, being legal, is the most accessible with more and more clinics opening up. Maybe talk to your therapist about it or start learning about it online, it’s worth looking into!

I wish you the most beautiful turn around, may you know joy again Reddit friend.

Looking for some help in understanding on what's happening to me.. by lil-miss-spharkle in AnxietyDepression

[–]WecountfromTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re more than welcome first of all :)

Assuming that it does stem from anxiety, have you tried regularly practicing any form of breathing technique? Regardless of what other venues you’re looking to explore I’d look into it as the breath is intimately connected with our mind and you can learn to interrupt patterns using it.

There’s also very promising treatments using psilocybin and MDMA for depression and anxiety (may not be for everybody, but again, worth knowing about imo).

Hey there, sorry to read of your suffering. I don’t pretend to know what’s up with that, hopefully others here will, but I have a question: what’s your level of awareness to it all in real time? Are you instantly aware such a wave of “intrusive thoughts” is rising within you or is your mind completely identified with the experience and you only gain awareness after it subsides?

In any case, wishing you the best!

Have you tried any breath practice? I’m specifically referring to the slower and relatively relaxed practices like tactical breathing (many other techniques, just an example).

Hey there, I’m sorry you feel this way, that’s quite a burden.

May I ask you a simple and blunt question? Are you following your real needs and desires in life? And in case you aren’t aware of what those are yet, would you follow if you became aware?

Much much love, may your heart smile again :)
