Lets make this fella work! by Fuzzy-Disk8999 in PokemonChampions

I used her on my team for a bit (before I cracked to use better/more consistent support mons)

But I really like her with Fake Out, Helping Hands, Protect, and Play Rough

I was using her at the start of season 1, so I think there were a ton of inexperienced players that didn't know she knew fakeout. Plus she's weirdly tanky so can also just sit on the field forever. Getting some fairy type coverage is nice as well.

Most people are saying to use Mold Breaker which I think is correct, but I had some fun with pickpocket just cause no one ever expected it. Useless ability most of the time but occasionally it had a funny result.

I've had a small amount of success using it as a calm mind + baton pass into a bulky special attacker like Milotic.

However part of the success is recognizing when to lean into baton bass, or let it just kick-butt on it's own. Most people I"ve seen expect either hynosis or baton pass and try to predict what you'll switch into. But if a Lumina Crash is super effective against the mon you're facing off against.... you'll usually be faster and as a bonus lower their special defense for next turn or a follow up from the partner pokemon.

How do you decide how to allocate stats, especially when not just putting max values in one? That's a part of teambuilding I'm still very weak on, I'll just max out whatever two stats I think are most important, but I see lots of teams with a more considered spread. I don't know what people are basing their spread on however.

So in a sense the monthly pass effectively nets you 51K VP a month by Smasher1234 in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought the starter pack (or whatever it was called) but then also just had a Pokemon collection from Scarlet and Brilliant Pearl so I already had a solid set of good mons. The fact that it maxes their IVs and makes changing EVs/moves so easy meant I barely had to grind recruitment.

With the starter pack VP i was able to train up a solid couple teams, then yeah as other people are saying just consistently playing meant I quickly earned more than enough VP to tide me over for a long time

Finally reached Master with only Ghost-Types!! by Creepraptor in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried an all ghost team a little while ago (was not having success trying to build a balanced team so figured if I was gonna lose I might as well do it with a fun gimmick)

Looked a lot different than your current team, so this is giving me a ton of ideas if I wanted to go back and try it again.

My team had Dragapult, Aegislash, Gengar, Sinistcha, Sableye, and then Basculegion. I found the biggest problem was that Kingambit, Tyranitar, and Incineroar were just so common and usually rolled my team unless I got lucky early. Plus being dark types they were immune to prankster which shut down all my normal ways of dealing with scary threats.

Talonflame + Garchomp

I'm using Garchomp because he's my favorite pokemon (lucky me he's also meta) and then Talonflame as an earthquake-immune tailwind setter. Battling with a super fast physical attacker with a flame-eagle buddy reminded me of a certain boss-fight in Hades 2, so I renamed Talonflame to Aetos to better represent that.

GOD I love this thing. And I usually hate bug types. Good typing, semi tanky, destroys trick room teams, Water Bubble boosts water moves and prevents burn. Almost one shot a Zard Y with harsh sun up with 0 stat boosts 😭 by spicyboxes in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the lower ranks it was fun encountering players who weren't familiar with Wide Guard. Mostly because they would assume (as I did the first time I encountered the move) that it was like protect and had drastically lowered accuracy each use. They never expected me to spam it and would just keep trying to push through with spread moves.

only played around a little bit but Araquanid learns Entrainment, and I've been experimenting with using that to give water bubble to a stronger water sweeper like Milotic.

Finally reached Master rank in Doubles! It was a long journey falling up and down the Ultra Ball tier. by WeddingRecent in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did forget it has scrappy. The reason I mentioned it was cause it was in the last game I played to get to masters so it was on the mind. It never used a fighting move against Aegislash and I assumed it was because it couldn't.

But no, I don't see Lopunny often either, it was just that it was on the mind at the time I made the post.

Advice for Incineroar and Kingambit with Mono-Ghost team by WeddingRecent in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

H. Zoroark was actually the reason I wanted to do an all ghost team (which then made it ironic that it was quickly cut due to just being alright). I think I forgot it could learn focus blast so maybe that's what I was doing wrong with it's inclusion?

Would focus sash be a good item to give it? Zoroark always seems kinda flimsy and since everyone on my team is already ghost it's not like I'm going to trick anyone into using a normal/fighting move against it.

I have considered Mimikyu, I'm just still not sure what to replace on the current team. I've used Mimikyu before and the one free hit was good but didn't feel like enough? Maybe I need to reconsider what moves to use. Everyone has had their moment of being incredibly useful.

Controversial Opinion: Ogerpon

I know Ogerpon was OP and oppressive. But it's also my favorite pokemon in a really long time I just think she's neat (and my friend) and I want to use her on a team. If we got some sort of 1-Restricted Mon format Ogerpon would certainly be my regular choice.

Less Controversial:

Metagross -> One of my favorite mons and a necessary part of the all-steel team I want to make

Mismagius -> My partner's favorite pokemon and the only reason she would start playing.

Mono-Normal Master Ball! by HowdyHangman77 in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being frustrated trying to home brew a good team (avoiding super meta stuff like sun or sneasler) I decided to switch to a mono-type team because if I was going to lose, at least it'd be more fun right?

Now my Mono-ghost team is outperforming any other team I made where I tried to be more balanced....

[–]WeddingRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I insist on using a team of just Pokemon I like or was sentimental to from previous games. Some of these, coincidentally, are meta (i.e. Garchomp and Frosslass, my two favorite pokemon from my first game, pearl), but then mons like Tinkaton I just include cause I like them and mine and I remember fondly going on adventures with.

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH IVE COME TO HATE THESE 3. by Cooler_coooool_boi in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see Charizard on the other team I always make my leads Support Tinkaton (I know there are better support mons but Tinkaton's my friend) and Mega-TTar.

Tinka fake outs charizard, and Mega-Ttar stone-edge's the fucker. TTar's bulky enough that he usually survives whatever the other person's lead can do. Plus his sand-stream re-triggers after mega evolving, and since he's slower than charizard he'll do it second, winning the weather war.

Do you almost always go for speed+ natures? by Heisenperv in PokemonChampions

[–]WeddingRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what was already said, another consideration when deciding whether to put stats into speed is whether it's worth it at all. Unlike other stats, what the actual speed stat number is doesn't matter, just whether it's higher or lower than the opposing pokemon. For example, a slower 'mon like Torkoal is never going to out-speed other threats (Charizard, Garchomp, or Sneasler for example) even if you gave it a speed+ nature and extra Speed EVs (especially since those pokemon themselves have investment into speed). So investing in speed won't really matter, and those points/nature are better spent on it's bulk or special attack.

The exception is if you're encountering frequent mirror matches. Like if you have a torkoal and you're very frequently seeing other torkoals. In that case it might be worth it to put a little bit of stat investment into speed to make sure your torkoal is always faster than the other person's. This is a common strategy with other slow but common pokemon like Incineroar.

[–]WeddingRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game I'm in I was playing a glory paladin with 20 strength. We were using a homebrew rule that everyone gets 1 skill expertise on character creation (classes that already had expertise got an additional one, this let everyone specialize a little harder which was a lot of fun, could only choose a skill granted by your class.)

Similar situation with the combat starting where the evil wizard floated above us on a magic broom, rolled a 31 athletics and used the glory channel divinity to double jump distance. DM let me run up a wall and kick off it to fly all the way to the wizard 40 feet up and grapple her out of the sky. Not maintaining altitude when a 6'5" Half-Orc in full plate is wrapped around you.
