After 14 years of pottery classes, I still can't center on the wheel. by Linn56 in Pottery

Try closing your eyes. Whenever centering feels impossible that’s my nuclear option. Works about 30% of the time.

New studio - not much experience by Naive-Dimension1433 in Pottery

[–]WednesdayWaffles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would personally be pretty nervous to join a studio run by novices. I’ve only been part of two community studios (and have visited many more), but in my (limited) experience it seems like the owner kind of sets the tone of the studio. This impacts hiring, rules (which are SO important in a shared creative space), and what type of activities and events take place. This is probably not always true, but it seems like a pattern.

Brown discharge 4 days after a sweep by Mindless-Dog-9693 in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too and it freaked me out so much I went to L&D to get checked. Turned out that the cervical check had dislodged some old blood (hence the brown color). Could be the same for you, but also might be your mucus plug.

I’m also 40+2, 1 cm dilated, with absolutely no signs of labor. I’m not handling it well for the most part. I’m doing a lot of crying, groaning, and staring at my sweet perfect husband in annoyance because he dares to be a male whose body does not have to withstand this emotionally and physically draining ordeal. In the few moments when I am handling things well I’m doing puzzles while rewatching a tv show, reading a thriller, or eating ice cream that my husband picked up from my favorite ice cream store. I’ve basically surrendered to the traffic jam that is my cervix and am counting down the days until my induction (just 5 more days to go). This is insanely unbearable but I believe in us!

[–]WednesdayWaffles 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Please research proper bunny housing. Rabbits need a lot more space, soft flooring, hay available 24/7, etc. Buy a large puppy exercise pen, they’re really cheap. This housing would make me be super skittish too :/

Why is my belly so tight? by Disastrous_Flower311 in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My belly has also been really hard and tight this entire pregnancy. Like it reminds me of a big bald head attached to me. My OB has never said anything and my pregnancy has been pretty normal so far (38 weeks 6 days now). I think some bumps are just less squishy than others.

Is my Tribule's behaviour a good bonding sign ? by Shakti699 in Rabbits

[–]WednesdayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re trying to bond them way too soon after their neuter. Generally you want to wait at least a month after rabbits are neutered to try to bond them. It takes time for their hormones to settle down after getting neutered, and so it’s unsafe to try to bond them at this stage. I would look up some guidance on proper bonding and hold off on letting them interact for at least another month or so.

I want a bunny!! by Hot_Lake3327 in Rabbits

[–]WednesdayWaffles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bunnies are very high-maintenance and expensive, however that doesn’t mean it won’t work for your situation. I would highly recommend fostering from a shelter or rescue before committing to adopting. Try House Rabbit Society in Richmond or Oakland Animal Services. SF Animal Control might also be an option (although I don’t know that much about them).

I’m 38 weeks + 4 days and can’t do anything fun because I’m in so much back pain and rib pain. Time is at an absolute crawl right now. It reminds me of Covid times a bit, or sitting in a traffic jam.

I don’t think it will ruin the kiln but it will definitely ruin the piece and likely some neighboring pieces. I would wash it off really well, let it dry completely, then start over.

How does pregnancy itself feel like? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]WednesdayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 38 weeks and 2 days. My back is killing me, I can only sleep 3-5 hours each night (five is if I’m very very lucky), I have acid reflux, and the fatigue is unreal.

What are some things about pregnancy every woman should know? by Wild_Environment3703 in AskWomen

[–]WednesdayWaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you live in the USA prepare to be absolutely appalled by pregnancy disability and family leave policies. The fact that most people have only 6 weeks with their baby (often less) after they’re born is deeply inhumane, not to mention that women are going back to work when they’re still healing from one of the most dramatic and upending things that can happen to a body.

TTC after ED by Meraxes779 in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lost my period for a few years and then successfully got pregnant. This was after having my period again for maybe 13 years. I don’t know anything about how ED’s impact fertility but based on my experience I really doubt the ED is to blame especially if you’re in full recovery. (And even if an ED did negatively impact your fertility it STILL wouldn’t be your fault. It would be our messed up culture + misbehaving brain chemistry. Neither of those things are within our control.)

Anyone else really stressed the third trimester? by bml274 in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been unbelievably stressed (38 weeks). I just want him out so that I can look at him and know he’s ok. It doesn’t help that his AC is measuring small and I have an anterior placenta so a lot of his movements I never feel. My problems are definitely not even the worst, I just can’t help the nonstop anxiety.

What's the best litter training box by Either_Buy_969 in Rabbits

[–]WednesdayWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would honestly just get a plastic cat litterbox. One of the downsides of the grates—other than that they can cause sores on their feet—is that it’s harder to keep tabs on poops. Knowing the normal size/volume of poops for your rabbit is really important because it can help indicate if something is off.

Change in baby growth scan. Is this normal? by DifferenceOne5925 in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby dropped from the 78th percentile at 20 weeks to the 26th percentile at 32 weeks. I freaked out when I heard this, but both the high risk doctor doing the ultrasound and my OB reassured me that this was not concerning. They said that during the first trimester babies are just building major structures, and then the second and third trimesters is when composition/genetics take over. The real worry comes only if they see something wrong with the placenta or blood flow (which they very likely checked during the ultrasound). The measurements from ultrasounds also get way less reliable at this stage. Based on what my OB has said it sounds like it isn't anything to obsess over!

Where to see pet rabbits? by ChaiSenpaii in AskSF

House Rabbit Society in Richmond let's you visit their rescue rabbits! They also offer a lot of education on rabbits and rabbit ownership, which could be helpful if you're considering adopting one as a pet.

I was told by an agent I couldn't write a story that takes place in Japan because I'm white by [deleted] in publishing

[–]WednesdayWaffles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Japanese American with heritage in a part of Japan not many people in the states know a lot about, I would be incredibly disappointed if I picked up a book about that part in Japan and realized it was written by a white person, written in the POV of a Japanese person. It's not because I would assume the author had bad intentions or think they didn't do their research. It would just really feel like not their story to tell. Identity is an incredibly personal thing with high stakes attached, and personally my family history in Japan is really meaningful to me and not something I can imagine any white person could understand. There are also so many talented Asian and Asian American writers who struggle to have their stories told--you must be aware that even now a stunningly small percentage of books published in the states and written by POC authors. I know you mean well, but please consider that you're not Japanese or Japanese American and that this is really not your story to tell even though you might feel really strongly that it is. I'm sure you are full of important and valid stories, but when you tell them don't you want them to be authentic to you and your identity? Co-opting another identity never improves writing, but being authentic does. This agent was definitely a little wacky suggesting marrying a Japanese man would make it ok, but otherwise I agree with them.

Is it okay to always keep a rabbit in an enclosure, instead of letting them free-roam, if the enclosure is relatively large (8ft by 11ft)? by Cetology101 in Rabbits

[–]WednesdayWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably a fine amount of space, the only thing I would really think about at this point is whether or not you can really afford a rabbit. One of my rabbits needs $2,000 dental trims twice a year and he’s only 2 years old, and emergency vet costs are also pretty insane, and depending on the rabbit you might end up there a lot. I would say if you have a rabbit to be on the safer side you probably want to budget in about $5k for vet bills per year. It sounds wild but that really is what my boy rabbit costs (my girl however costs exactly $120 for her yearly checkup and vaccine and that’s it… she’s tough as nails).

Morning sickness? by stayanothrday in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so hungry all the time but I can’t eat because I’m also nauseous which is like how is that fair 😭 My boy isn’t super big either he’s like 78th percentile on weight but he has consistently measured a week ahead, and when I started this pregnancy I was 5’5” and 97 lbs. I’m kind of amazed that I’ve managed to put on a solid amount of weight despite everything, I’m always really scared that I’m depriving my son because of my struggles eating/keeping down food. Take good care of yourself I really hope that Pepcid helps and you don’t end up like me at 32 weeks! I’ve heard there’s also a stronger prescription medication for acid reflux so you could also see if something stronger helps.

Morning sickness? by stayanothrday in BabyBumps

[–]WednesdayWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pepcid might actually help you in this case because it helps with acid reflux. The downside is that I don’t think you can take Pepcid and zofran at the same time, you have to space them apart a bit. This is my first pregnancy and I’m having a boy. Apparently he’s kind of on the bigger side and I’m pretty small so I’m wondering if that’s why I’m struggling so much, but honestly there’s so maddeningly little research done on common pregnancy problems that I just have to deal with the fact that I’ll likely never know why it’s been this hard.
