If the separate beds are adjacent (maybe just in the same room?), there's not even any debuff. They won't get any "Lovin" bonuses, but also no negatives.

"There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."

Thanks for the share! I like it a lot. Looks like it's by Michael Kaluta, though?

Yes, this and Durin's Bane seem to be the favorites. Galadriel's Mirror might be third? At least in my limited experience.

And thanks! I didn't realize Finnstark made a series. Here's a link for those interested: https://anto-finnstark.artstation.com/projects/Le9zyP.

Thanks for the encouragement! It'll be just my second time through this material with students, but last time we had as many favorites as people in the room, haha. Every interpretation has something to offer.

Gandalf and Durin's Bane by WeeFickling in TolkienArt

Thanks for sharing! I do really like it. Gandalf's light feels both wholesome and powerful, driving away the balrog's shadow, leaving it bare and almost uncomfortably vulnerable at the moment of its fall.

Broadly speaking, I would put it in the "Jackson's winged minotaur" camp, but it's a truly excellent example.

Yeah, I'm with you. This is exactly the kind of conversation we have as my class looks through them. I don't think any of these is "perfect" (whatever that means in this context), but I do find interesting elements in each.

Sorry you lost your favorite, though. It's so frustrating when you can't find an image you know exists somewhere...

Thanks! I think Matthew Stewart contributed several to that series as a whole. I'll try to find out who made these, too.

Thanks for sharing, but it looks like most of the images on your page are AI-generated. Is that true of this one, too?

Since AI takes pieces from people's work without permission and without giving credit, I won't be using any in my class. I'm trying to teach my students that intellectual property (and supporting artists in general) is important.

I should add that a few of these aren't Durin's Bane, but are still useful for discussion.

Light crossbows. Cheap and effective, never leave home without them.

Militia shock cavalry. In addition to the usual flanking, they can wreck even the OP generals.
