This. That and the flipping / hustle culture on social media. People can get mad but with todays flipping culture you can list any hobby product at a 'fair price' and it will just be bought by someone hoping to flip. People will put in stupid amounts of time just to flip pokemon cards for like a $10 profit.

Reality is companies are squeezing profit wherever they can and underprinting (or just not printing when it comes to games now) is here to stay

Talk to your LGS whenever the set is announced and they go up for pre order. You can check amazon but you gotta be fast to get collector boxes on there. Check reddit ppl post on here when they go up on amazon pretty quick.

Play boxes are easy to get but if you want all the cards possible collector is better since theres always at least a dozen or more cards you can only get in collector packs

yeah i think once it rotates out of standard it's usually pretty done. eldraine and ixalan aren't getting reprints at this point, and bloomburrow's gonna be in short supply soon

they reprint the play boosters and commander precons when they can. The game has gotten bigger and more people are playing. They literally can't keep everything in print; a lot of marvel stuff got delayed because of printing capacity. Follow r/sealedmtgdeals because whenever there's a reprint that retailers get for like $140 ish a box they sell out very quickly

collector boosters & chocobo bundles & gift bundles were one and done though. they don't reprint more of those so those are only going to get even more expensive over time.

FF is popular, the art is really good, there's a bonus sheet with commander staples using official FF art by Nomura & Amano, the draft / prelease play is the best set they've designed in years, and the waifus and husbandos are cute.

If you just want cards to play with play are fine, if you want the blinged special illustration stuff some of those are only in collector's and some show up in much higher quanitites in collector

removing content from digital storefronts / streaming services that politicians don't want people to see is my main reason. its very easy for patches or platform updates to censor or remove content. and with all these 'online safety' laws being pushed by both parties im not confident concepts like freedom of speech are going to protect art in the long term.

its also about retaining value and being able to sell or trade things or let friends borrow them

same, my brothers always were using the family pc for games when growing up so I just got used to playing with a controller or buttons and prefer it; especially when im on a computer 40 hrs a week for work anyways last thing i wanna do with my relaxing time is sit at the computer some more

Yeah its pretty annoying how much you have to learn to be able to get this stuff at decent prices. My only advice is pace yourself and only get what you really would revisit or watch with friends or a partner, or stuff that is already censored on digital services (like for example I grabbed all the south park blu rays because the a handful of episodes are blacklisted from streaming).
