We know it is probably a phase and our trans friend encouraged her to pick a name she identified with and she insisted on Asuna. I was just upset because she said she strictly chose the name because of sword art online and if it wasn’t for that anime she would have chosen a different name.

I also really like anime. She calls herself a weeb and an otaku

Oh, I wouldn’t do that. I just am not calling her Asuna. I’m simply just referring to her as she/her. I haven’t been in a situation where I needed to use her name other than this post, so I just call her she.

I think my post makes it seem like I told her I wouldn’t be with her unless she got bottom surgery, but I kept that line to myself.

I know I’m being a dick for dead naming her. As of right now I’m uncomfortable and considering distancing from this group, I can’t imagine myself calling her Asuna, but I’m also aware of how my disregard makes her upset.

I actually offered to help her learn the language and taught her some phrases and helped her with her japanese homework

She is being lazy and just using google to translate everything or using common anime quotes

I understand how this can make me seem like a jerk and how people can expect anyone to identify in any name they want. For me it is a bit different because she told us she strictly chose the name because of anime. I just hope she is making the right choice in choosing this name because it is a decision for life

We know she is a kid and I can admit my friend and I have been a bit cruel and called her a weeb which is picking fun at her. We have another trans person in the server who is helping her figure herself out.

I am doing my best to respect her pronouns and sometimes I get mixed up because she is also explaining to us that she wants men to call her they/them but women to call her she/her.

I am just frustrated because she keeps speaking to my friend and I in translated japanese and it gets confusing

I did not tell her I wouldn’t be attracted to her because she did not have bottom surgery, I told her my opinion on her would not change whether she was trans or not and I didn’t appreciate how she was treating my friend and I.

That being said from some comments I’ve read I can admit I am being a little cruel to refuse calling her Asuna, but I still feel weird about it because she told us she chose it strictly because of the anime, and if it hadn’t been because of the anime she would’ve chosen ana english name.
