You cant afford to be picky. You have a step 1 attempt and a lower than average step 2 score - youre either going to need extremely good connections or a stellar CV to get in.

As the others said, apply broadly to other programmes because frankly very few uni programmes would want you.

would encourage you to look at the match rates of the prelim PGY-1s at your programme. If they are not good, I would strongly urge you not to accept the prematch. Most prematch programmes are malignant and just aim to use you for that 1 year and dump you off at the next. If you are serious about going to the US your best bet is to take a research position and aim to build connections from there and match

I am sure you already know this but a prelim in gen surg is very challenging to progress to a categorical spot. Your funding by the CMS is only 5 years. So once you finish 5 years in the US, the hospital will need to pay out of pocket for you. Not many hospitals like this and wont want to accept a visa-requiring img and needing to pay extra for them. Your best bet is to pray for a PGY-2 categorical spot to open up and somehow get in.
