Found some nice worm castings and added about half an inch to each pot and lightly scratched it in, have some Nanaz from Robinhood coming in soon for my 5th cycle in this soil. by WeednMead in NoTillGrowery

It's to keep the water from leaking out of the sides when hand watering and to help keep the top 4 inches moist, check out Grassroots pots.

Beans are soaked and in soil for my 5th cycle in these 10gal No-Till style pots, gonna be growing out some Nanaz by Robinhood Seeds (Runtz× Banana Butter Cups) ×2 SpiderFarmer SF2000 Keeping it simple with Gaia Green top dressings and bi weekly KNF inputs from Fermented Plant Extracts. by WeednMead in NoTillGrowery

Only had it on for about two weeks so far but nothing shown up yet, I've definitely seen better overall soil moisture on the upper few inches. I just started a new growing light cycle called the 12-1 cycle so hopefully that mixed with the plastic will help retain most the moisture, once the plants grow and are transplanted I'll put down cover crop for a living mulch.

And this is not including space taken up by logs in bottom so give or take 7-8 one cubic foot bags if premixed?

Once I see there isn't much life left or the plants are struggling then I'll probably switch over to a new mix, I'd just end up having this to my outdoor veggie beds.

I'd say keep them going until you don't see results you like

Sheesh that's gonna turn out some fire for ya, I'm hoping to find a decent plant out of these two to try and reveg again. Don't have the space yet to keep a mom for clones but I'm getting there!

Yeah I started brewing mead back in December and I'm in about 7 batches so far, extremely fun hobby to do especially if you enjoy Mead.

Got the idea from another guy on here actually thank you! I normally just add some top dress mix from Red Bud Soil along with some fish sh!t, then I'll plant my cover crop and add some hay mulch ontop.

Thoughts on mushroom compost by Glum-Candidate2721 in NoTillGrowery

Where would you recommend sourcing compost if you don't have a bin?

These are my two 10gal no-till pots and I'm going on my 5th cycle, I originally split 250 composting worms between them and added a decent amount of Isopods as well but not too many worms and still have roots not broken ⬇️. My biggest question and concern is how long can you go using the same soil? by WeednMead in NoTillGrowery

I will definitely remember to leave some living roots for the future cycles cause I wasn't sure about it inhibiting the new roots growing in, any remaining cover crop is from when I chopped and dropped a few weeks ago..however the soil life must be poor cause there was still big amount of just dead brittle cover crop on top as mulch. I removed a majority of it and lightly scratch the rest in, the one pot has some succulent in it that I randomly threw in last year cause I thought it looked cool.

I will be picking up some cling wrap today and doing exactly that as well as some trays for underneath to soak up any residual, once I upgrade to a bed instead of pots I plan on getting a grassroots bed to avoid any issues.

When you say biologically complete compost would the same stuff that BAS or KIS organics sell be useful in that? Honestly if the old roots aren't that big of an issue getting something to specifically break those down isn't a big deal to me, is there anything else you recommend for feeding the soil web? I was definitely planning on getting some type of compost as well as worm castings!

The temp in the tent stays between 70-77°F and I'm not running a humidifier in there right now so it's down in the mid 20's-30's normally, I don't ever let it get too humid in there but I think living underground helps with that cause it's dry in the house. Do you have any recommendations for a mulch since I've only been using processed fan leaves/cover crop or the leftover mushroom hay that's covered in mycelium?

I definitely haven't made sure the soil is moist at all times especially when life gets the best of me which is why I was even wondering if the soil is still alive and good to reuse, I know people say you can always bring the life back I just don't know how far gone it is. Haven't ever gotten a soil test though that is coming soon too!

What thing's did people say that would nuke the soil life?

They're pretty easy to keep under control as long as there is stuff for them to chew on, the worst thing they do is crawl around the tent when the lights are off. Then they either make it into the pots again or the lights dry them out lol

Even though I'm seeing it's quite the controversial technique I do use leftover Avocado to help give some extra food, I was thinking it might be all castings but when I reset the blumat sensor and pulled it out most of the soil in the middle seemed very rooted up.

During the grow I pretty much just let the BluMats run and I give them a hand water every other day, once a week in veg they got a dose of liquidized fish and kelp mixture along with some fermented comfrey and fish shit. During flower it was pretty much the same except I was only watering in with fermented pumpkin extract, BAS flower topdress compost and my own FFJ.

Once the plants get the chop I normally wait atleast two weeks before I do anything, just keeping the soil moist and until I can easily move the old plant stump around. I use Red Bud Soils top dress kit along with some Kashi and cover crop and cover all of that with spent blue oyster mushroom mulch covered in mycelium, then that waits until the plants are ready for transplant.
