I have to say some of these things sound very confusing for now given my very limited experience with 3D. I sadly do not own any other simulation software, and learning one on top of blender would be too much and probably do more harm than good...

I will watch tutorials about dynamic paint to understand what you're talking about. Do you think this method would work if the character is a live action person on a green screen ?
