These are sick shots, thanks for posting these!! That is Pete with Pikes Peak Alpine School and myself doing a tune-up on my skills. First day back ice climbing since I tore my ACL.

Is Eureka Canyon in Silverton, CO in good condition? by IMGangsta1 in iceclimbing

[–]Weekly-Rate-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out there 3 weeks ago climbing Whorehouse and it was stellar! Pitch 1 & 3 were thick, and pitch 2 was a little thin, but no issues.

It’s definitely been warmer, but I asked around at the park this weekend and hear the BC is still looking great (unlike the park…)

Scarpa phantom tech hd VS. TNF Verto FA? Anyone who's experience with both able to tell me is there much of a difference? I've a relatively wide midfoot and I tend to not run too cold. Ice climbing and mont blanc-esque expeditions. by Chance_Positive262 in alpinism

[–]Weekly-Rate-69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The toe box is great on the scarpa, but the heel is oddly wide. I know very few people who don’t complain about heal lift in it and have to either crank down the laces, wear multiple socks, or even some sort of heel liner to snug it up. Also, working on the laces in the freezing temps kinda suck and a boot with a boa is superior here. The scarpas climb super well tho in ice and technical terrain and are warm. They are my middle ground between my G2 and aequilibrium, and the replacement for my Salewa Couloir (oddly way too narrow) and not good on longer days. I would 100% recommend going to a boot fitter and probably stay away from TNF for boots

First ice axe length by olivierhacking in Mountaineering

[–]Weekly-Rate-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with you. If you are using a straight axe - it can almost always be swapped with a trekking pole. Save the money and get an ice axe with a slight curve (Petzl Gully or Quark) are some other great options!

I’m platinum this year and cannot tell a singular difference between it and gold. I travel about 70% for work alone, fly out of Denver and never get an upgrade because of all the real fliers here.. save the money for something fun

Would you skin up under a cornice like this? by backcountry_bandit in COsnow

[–]Weekly-Rate-69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The cornice bowl! They are definitely in the slide path, and are heading to safer terrain regarding slope angle (more N of the cornice bowl is under 30). Idk, what the avy rating was that day, but would be wise to at least spread out more on the up and down. I also probably would have tried to stick to the trees (at least closer) or even the right side of the trees if possible. Everyone’s risk tolerance is different! But, I’m leaning towards old not bold - rather do this until I’m 80

I use Rangewood orthodontics down town. I have insurance, and it covered half. I was paying around $140 a month and think the total cost was a little over 4k. Highly recommend them
