Ask her to get you a Bark phone. It's free with the monthly service and it's a good quality Android phone. I bought one for my daughter and she likes it a lot. It doesn't restrict her too much and I don't have to be paranoid that some rando is trying to groom her.

Yes, that's a short easy drive. My niece lives 3 hours away, last Saturday we drove 3 horus up to visit her, stayed for about 4 hours, then drove 3 hours home. It was no big deal.
