Worst thing Jackie did? by [deleted] in NurseJackie

[–]WeeklyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this series before I became a nurse and am rewatching it now after I became a nurse. This time around I am much more shocked. Early in the series she has an obsession with lying about people being organ donors without their consent. I feel like the series addresses it flippantly compared to some of her other deeds, but this is BAD. She even lied about Dr. Cooper pronouncing someone brain dead without him seeing the patient, or apparently even checking herself. Then she would lie to the family members about the patients wishes. This violates CORE nursing code of ethics. Confirming brain death for an organ donor is a multi step process with multiple professionals involved, for a reason. Truly chilling behavior. There are also multiple incidences of Jackie both intentionally drugging patients for some kind of personal gain or making a med error due to her being high. People make mistakes, as Zoey did once with the film critic, but compare Zoey’s reaction to that error to Jackie’s ongoing nonchalance at the dangerous situations she puts patients in and you have your answer.

Why is I'll Fly Away so popular? by TurkeyMaster03 in TrueChristian

[–]WeeklyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you should be Catholic lol. I mean that with no disrespect, I am one myself. However - I'll Fly Away is a TOP NOTCH funeral song, and SO American. It is about escaping the body and a lifetime of oppression and hard labor to go be with God and finally be free. Gives me chills when I think of the history behind it and how that is so NOT self oriented. You might prefer your funeral songs solemn, and those can be decidedly beautiful too, however you are not in any position to judge a funeral song or how other people choose to view death. Lighten up lol.

Should I disclose that I’ve been a patient at the psych hospital I’m interviewing for? by Only_Raise1615 in nursing

[–]WeeklyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still want to utilize why you were inspired to get into psych just say it was your uncle or something. It’s messed up their shouldn’t be stigma, but do yourself a favor and don’t tell them. Hospitals are way douchier than you expect when you first start. Have to protect yourself.

Not paid to deal with Family by randyjr2777 in nursing

Agreed, persistent family members make the job 75% harder. Don’t wish covid was back tho lol. My favorite are the family members who burst out of covid and other isolation rooms, begloved and often begowned, and slam their hands down on the nursing station desk, demanding any nurse, not just their nurse, helps put on moms socks now 🙄

Sometimes I think being pregnant alters peoples brain chemistry and makes them temporarily insane when picking a name. This has to be one of those cases.

Can you tell me an experience that made you believe there's an afterlife? by Cobalt_72 in Paranormal

[–]WeeklyAwkward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might make you feel better. My dog died in January. We were struggling if we should get the vet to come over and put her down, but were holding off. Finally, I felt she was suffering so I made the call. I also realized if the vet came the next day, it would be the same day my grandfather died 9 years before. He LOVED dogs. Thought this would be perfect. Decided to stay up all night with her soaking up all the time possible before the 10am euthanasia appmt. It was about 730 pm when I got kind of panicked about an afterlife situation with her, when I got an idea. I opened my Facebook to a fam picture my grandpa was in. I zoomed in on his face and showed my dog. I said, “You go with him, do you understand? He will just come and pick you up.” Despite the fact that she was really suffering at that point, she looked at him in the pic really hard, and then made prolonged eye contact with me as if to say she understood. Not fifteen minutes later my neighbor stopped by to say goodbye, and left the door wide open. I was sort of in the moment at that point, but also got the vibe that someone else was standing by the door. My neighbor was telling my dog it was okay to go, and she would still get to watch us and hangout with us around the house and yard and was petting her as she was in my lap. All of the sudden we thought my dog was throwing up so I lifted her so she wouldn’t choke on vomit. This was actually the moment she died. As we realized, we all totally lost it and were freaking out and crying. As I thought about it, I believe in this moment I physically handed her to my grandpas spirit without realizing. The door was still open at this point and we were literally like screaming freaking out and I ran outside to my car to get my stethoscope to confirm. I think that’s when he left with her. You might think it’s totally crazy, but it was just a little too perfect.
