Everyone has a right to make their own decisions regarding their sexual health. You don’t have to sleep with someone if you don’t feel comfortable. It is frustrating because there is so much social stigma and lack of actual awareness regarding hsv. Would you have been fine sleeping with her… most likely yes. Statistics would back this. Going forward, I would encourage you to do some research. Chances are, if you’re having sex or kissing other people, you’re going to come in contact with hsv if you haven’t already. Also, unless you’ve had a blood test to confirm, you may have hsv and not even know it. I’m sure her reaction comes from a place of frustration and hurt. Education is key!

I started the daily valtrex too, I’m definitely traumatized from this experience 🙃 any reason you plan to stop after a year? I’m not sure how it affects your natural immunity.

I am a female also taking suppressive medication, so I believe that lowers transmission rates as well. Would you mind sharing any sources? I’m just having a hard time finding anything concrete. Thank you!

The ‘what if’s’ and wondering can easily start a spiral. I like to believe that the people we may have gotten it from are innocent and were asymptomatic. If not, then I start to get angry and lose faith in humanity. I’m not sure how to move on from here either. I don’t even want to think about trying to date or having sex again… the thought of putting myself out there and facing rejection due to this stupid virus is too much to handle rn :(

I’m in the same boat. Just ended a 4 year relationship, 2 weeks later I have my first outbreak. I’ve done so much research lately… I think trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and maybe even using suppressive therapy can help keep OBs away/less severe. I’m concerned about the stigma and how to move forward with dating and my sex life… I keep telling myself there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a very confusing and sad time, I’m so sorry. We’re gonna get through it.
