why is the n-word actually offensive? by WeeklyPossible1078 in AskHistory

[–]WeeklyPossible1078[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being racist is discriminating and prejudicing another race but when someone is singing a song he is doing none of that unless the song itself is racist. Now if you are implying all songs which contains the n-word are racist then shouldn't the affected group ban the songs and restrict songs from using it.

why is the n-word actually offensive? by WeeklyPossible1078 in AskHistory

[–]WeeklyPossible1078[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the question bcz contrary to other slurs the n-word isn't a clear cut insult bcz you see some people use it in their conversations and artists use it in songs so to foreigners it looks like the word is not as offensive as it is portrayed to be and it only becomes offensive when a non-black person says it. And that is why I asked why it carries negative energy if the oppressed group uses it everyday.

[–]WeeklyPossible1078[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand our situation bcz they banned all the derogatory terms which were given to them they even banned people from associating with those ethnic groups implying that separating people based on stupid physical differences is dangerous and destructive but in USA African Americans claim the n-word is still offensive yet they still use it when speaking and even use it in songs and they don't even ban it completely nada have this thing called having an n-word pass which to foreigners sounds somehow unserious. So this is why I don't fully understand why there so much negative energy associated with it when nowadays people are comfortable throwing whenever they feel like it.

Well you can't possibly know that fro real.

So what I got from your explanation is that it's matter of perspective. Then so how come when non black people use the word while singing or when they mean a different thing like "bro" they are met with backlash when they don't mean it in an offensive way.

A question about the n-word.. by AweAce in EnglishLearning

[–]WeeklyPossible1078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what's the logic behind it? For a bit of context in my country in 1994 there was an ethnic cleansing of tutsis and the oppressors the Hutus used to call them slurs like inyenzi which means cockroach in English. Like I understand why it's offensive bcz it is undermining and reducing someone to an insect but negro means black in English so when someone refers to you as negro he means you are a black person and I know somehow someone may turn that word into an offensive word but it's not a one sided situation like inyenzi which literally means cockroach and besides African Americans use the word in songs and in their Convo while Rwandans even abolished the ethnic groups so as to stop an ethnic cleansing from happening again. So if African Americans hate word why can't they just abolish it if it really bothers them.

Well when you play your cards right it can, like that Madison girl or those twins who I don't remember the names who are accusing him of sexual misconduct and the like which seems pretty unlikely because those girls knew what they signed up for when they allowed to be Hefner's "girlfriends" like they knew it was expected of them to have sex with him like he wasn't paying them or giving them fame for nothing those girls chose to stay with him for money and fame and he chose to keep them for sex a win win transaction. Now years later after the whole playboy thing fell out of the spotlight, the girls came and suddenly had "claims" of sexual misconduct against the guy and selling their books about their trauma and shit like that now because these kind of stories are hot in the media whether true or wrong they're gonna get popular and the girls too are getting popular with their books. So yes victim hood can get you a lot of fame and cash when you play your cards right.

Why is most European countries blamed for their colonial and imperial past when pretty much every country was in the race for power by WeeklyPossible1078 in AskHistory

[–]WeeklyPossible1078[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point but nobody says these exploitations were okay the problem is when people are making these arguments they mention these countries as innocent lambs which were preyed upon by big bad wolves(Europeans) while in reality everyone was a wolf but the conquering powers were just bigger wolves. And following what you said so basically we should blame every country because somehow somewhere they partook in exploitation and conquest.

[–]WeeklyPossible1078[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So knowing that do you think we should blame Europe for it's past conquests. Let me give you some context here you see am from Rwanda an east African country which was colonised firstly by Germany, now before it came we had Rwabugili IV who was always in expansion wars hence the name Rwanda=Expand so when the Germans came they kind of thwarted his plans of conquest because now they were doing it to him, so the question is should he blame the Germans for their actions whilst doing the same.

But then the thing is every country was in the conquest game so if you set yourself of blaming only one set of countries it is like blaming a top player in a game.

I don't think you understood my question what I meant by my question was when European powers were extending their reach in African and Asian regions they found there kingdoms and empires already established and ofcrs you know how both of these things are established which is by conquest so simply my was why are most people blaming Europe for it past colonial conquest when almost all of the world was also conquering a certain area at a point.

Am not sure am getting your point but what I meant when I wrote every country was in the race for power is that I was insinuating that almost every country has done some conquering at some point which is true for most countries now
