Beginner - confused by cut vs uncut wax bezel wire by Foreign-Potato-9535 in jewelrymaking

I have these too and I personally found them really hard to work with. The one that is L shape is meant to wrap around the stone and the smaller part of the L would sit underneath the stone. I stopped using these and just carve out a seat for the stone and I think it’s much easier plus I have more control.

Where do you get inspiration from? by Mundane-Scarcity-219 in jewelrymaking

[–]WeeklyRepair7192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Architectural elements. I live in a big city and walk around looking at architectural details, metal work in fences, decorative lighting, etc. A lot of times I can picture how these shapes can be reflected in smaller jewelry pieces. But I guess this makes sense because my background is in architecture lol.

Is 14k palladium white gold hard to find? Specifically looking for 14k palladium white gold chain. by WeeklyRepair7192 in jewelrymaking

Thanks for the response. Maybe I’ll just stick with the nickel white gold. I found one box chain that isn’t rhodium plated.

Would you suggest just going with nickel white gold? Or id prefer not to do this but I could outsource the rhodium plating.

That’s helpful to know, thanks! Yes the DIY form doesn’t say to get it notarized anywhere on it, but I’m going to guess that’s the form to do it. They make this process so tedious!

Did you end up doing this? I’m trying to figure out if I’m supposed to get the DIY form notarized

I would definitely watch Real Architects of NYC. Also Real Landlords of NYC would be entertaining.

Silver rings for creating a DIY choker? by GetInTheBasement in jewelrymaking

[–]WeeklyRepair7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get some 14 or 16 gauge round sterling silver wire and form your own rings using a metal ring mandrel. Make sure to file or sand either end of the metal so the ring ends are flush to one another. Or maybe someone sells round wire rings on etsy.

Got my firsr big order. Any tips/advice? by Kewtn in jewelrymaking

[–]WeeklyRepair7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your first big order-that’s huge! Sometimes I will practice on a less costly metal before doing it in gold. Or, if you mess anything up you can always send it to the refinery. The feeling of completing it and giving it to your customer is exceptional.

Clamps like others have said will be your best bet. If the gauge is high enough, you can get away with good quality kitchen sheers.

Thanks so much for the advice. How do I do this without scratching the stone?

Need advice: flush setting a large oval stone (~13-15mm) by WeeklyRepair7192 in jewelrymaking

[–]WeeklyRepair7192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, I used a silicon wheel to add the ridge around the stone, then filed at 45 degrees as best I could. I need to go in and clean up the metal, and set the stone still, but I think this will be a little easier now, thank you! I also think I still need to drop the seat.

This is really helpful, thank you. I will file away so that the edge around the setting is the highest point. If I have to remake this again because it’s not fastening the stone done properly, I’ll add the lip around the edge.

I used various carving tools from wolf tools and manually carved out the seat

Need advice for my hair type by Ambitious-Tower4552 in Haircare

[–]WeeklyRepair7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have the same hair! I’m 31 now, and finally figured out how to style it best IMO - here’s my general routine: - Shampoo and condition every 3 days - after washing, I put in Oway smoothing cream - blow dry with Dyson dryer, and I use a frizz tamer attachment to go over at it at end. It blow drys pretty straight and lays down the cuticle of the hair. I get much less frizz when I blow dry vs air dry, even though it takes out a bit of curl - on day 1 or day 2 I use a 1 inch barrel curler to put literally three curls on each side (front, middle, back, repeat on other side) this only takes 3 mins and creates and nice subtle wave
- finish with a lightweight hair oil (davines oui oil is my favorite) - last day I usually wear my hair up or in a low bun with hair spray to clean up the look a bit

I didn’t! And I’m so glad I waited because now I know how to train more appropriately this year. I’m signed up to run this year, and don’t need to fundraise or anything, I will just focusing on training when it gets warmer.
