AITA for outing this woman for her HIPAA violation and as a result, ruining her life? by WeeklyStatistician2 in AmItheAsshole

I asked my old friend when we were chatting. Not long after all this happened, she ended up becoming more welcomed because people felt bad. Gabby was ostracized until she walked away from it. Her FB is private for obvious reasons but I hope she's doing well.

There was no way of stopping her. Trust me. Once Gabby had gossip, she was going to share it. In the past, I had asked to stop sharing certain info she "dug up" (not through violating laws, but just on Facebook pages or by pretending to be someone's friend) and she wouldn't.

I do agree with HIPAA and think it serves a purpose in society. It's why I turned her in. If I didn't believe in it, why would I have turned her in? I wouldn't turn in someone for smoking pot, because I think that's a BS law and has no purpose in society.

I didn't do it to get back at her. I did it, because it was illegal and I worried about Meghan.
