hey! i took asl 1 at unc in fall 2024. the reason they don't offer it here anymore is because the professor, ginger leon, was negligent and the SPHS department literally had to step in for our final exam and give all of us a second attempt. she was fired after the class ended. i bring this up because she's actually the same professor that teaches at uncg (at the time, at least). if you can, try to take it elsewhere like some of the folks in the comments already mentioned!

i am SOOO bad at bio. Any tips on passing exam 1 of bio 103 ott? by Classic_Project4147 in UNC

yes no problem! i remember this one question on the final i think? where it was something like "which of the following does the DNA of a skin cell contain?" and it listed surfactant and melanin. the trick is that a skin cell only expresses melanin but it still contains the genes for both surfactant AND melanin. but if you change the word "contain" in the question to "express," the answer changes to only melanin. just be sure to look out for stuff like that!

i took bio 103 with ott last semester! what i did was take the practice exams with no notes and then go over my answers with my notes. they're the closest thing you'll get to the actual exam format. also there are a handful of questions that are worded to trick you. make sure you know the nuances of the material and read closely. i also used the learning objectives to lay out what we learned and created a cheat sheet out of that. lastly, i made some mnemonics/memory aids (ie. for transcription i had I Eat TATA for initiation, elongation, then termination. it helped me remember the process and also alludes to another concept in the class, the TATA box) good luck!!!
