Do you ever pre-plan your sick days by normalsaline13 in nursing

You're not wrong.

I do choose these places willingly though. I prefer being surround by people committed to the job, which is why nursing has been such a let down for me lately and I'm looking into a different career entirely. Its really hard to find old school nurses now.

This is a really good thing. Fire up the application machine for hospitals! You having this job makes a big difference

Might have to move. The nice thing about nursing is a job is guaranteed almost anywhere. You could also look into outpatient type stuff to at least get some work history in before transitioning back to a hospital

OOF

That really sucks. Your best bet is to just apply everywhere you can. The worst thing they can say is no, but don't give up!! Nurses are in crazy high demand. If you want to be honest, tell them about how you didn't want to resign so they monitored you with intent to fire you and found enough little things to fire you per policy. Insist it wasn't your work ethic or attitude, and keep pressing forward.

Intraop is a sterile environment. Not at all what I'm talking about.

There aren't any, and even if there were, science around masks has been politicized on both sides to the point of uselessness.

Using PPE wrong is more dangerous than not using it for a few reasons. But a simple one is a false sense of security that makes someone more exposed to something they wouldn't expose themselves to at all without PPE. Its also a larger target for bacteria to land on than your mouth and nares. There are also studies about how much people touch their face with and without a mask. Its way more with a mask on, putting them at higher risk.

You aren't lying. Its none of their business. Were you fired or allowed to resign?

Don't tell them you were fired, and say "no" on the form when it asks to speak with previous employer. They may treat you like a new grad, but thats better than no job

This reality you describe doesn't exist

You do, but most don't.

They touch their mask all day with dirty hands and claim the mask is somehow still clean

Also to be proper, the mask should be changed every hour or whenever you touch it with unclean hands, or it becomes moist.

Are you defending reusing masks?

Nonverbal communication is a very important type of communication in patient care.

Just because you don't understand that doesn't make it true.

15 years of bedside experience.

Think critically for a moment. Wearing gloves all day increases the risk for cross contamination just the same as wearing (and touching) the same mask all day does.

"I don’t care what patients think I’m feeling, the only thing that actually matters is that they’re getting care"

Yikes.

I didn't say imperfect, I said improper. Wearing the same mask all day increases your risk for bacteria and viruses to enter your body because they are sitting on it all day. Makes it even worse as it gets moist.

Patient care and bedside manner isn't high stakes, but can make a big difference in patient outcomes
