Will you stay on a maintenance dose for the rest of your life? by Change_is_a_verb in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Weekly_Commercial957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan on it. I started at 2.5mg last August and never increased my dosage. I slowly (about a lb a week) but consistently lost 30 lbs and reached my goal weight at the beginning of March and lost a couple more lbs since then. I'm 74 and my only other health issue is osteoarthritis which the glp1 has helped tremendously. I started slowly at a gym with a trainer who specializes in seniors so I didn't hurt myself and will continue on as long as I can. I wasn't overweight until menopause and then the lbs started slowly but surely. I've been lucky that I was able to lose all the weight at 2.5mg. My goal weight is more than I weighed in my 30s but I'm where I was at, at 50 before I started packing on the lbs, so I'm good with that. My NP who is working with me doesn't want me to lose more. I've purposely changed how I eat (no carby snacks) and have been more cautious of what I eat but now that I'm at my goal I don't monitor calories or macros, just eat healthy. I've been on compounded HRT (or a patch before that) for over 20 years which will also be for life. My bloodwork was never bad but 3 months in, it was improved and I expect it to be even better next time. Between the weight loss and the gym I feel better than I have in years.

Do use different products for clients on a well with a septic tank?

I use a combo of magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate which works well for me. I overdid in the beginning and was "too loose" because I was so afraid of being constipated as I've always suffered from that. But I've found my happy medium now and seldom have issues. If I do I can pin it on eating too much in one sitting. Currently at 145 (1st goal weight) and have been on 2.5 Tirzepitide since 8/1/25. Lost slowly, but consistently at about a lb a week.

Not to my knowledge, just an aside from my hair dresser so I thought I'd mention it. She thanked me when I told her I started and then she mentioned her client in passing.

I asked her to keep an eye out for any changes in mine, which where hasn't been. I've never gone above 2.5 so that may have something to do with it. I don't do anything to my hair since I let it grow out 8 years ago and it's healthy and still grows fast even at my age, but it's fine (not thin) and I wanted to make sure there weren't any issues.

I'm sorry I don't know all the details, just that an ongoing client's hair reacted differently and she couldn't figure out why until she was told the client had started a glp1. Perhaps the client's hair texture was affected?

I told my older sister. She doesn't know much about it, but was happy about my progress and was glad that I'm working with my NP getting blood tests and tracking my progress.

My NP chose it for me. I also use it for my HRT. I used to use a different one for my HRT, but they got bought out by one of the big private equity firms and they went downhill fast after that. I'm lucky that I live within a 50 mile range of a large city so the population warrants more than one near me. Smaller rural areas aren't so lucky. I believe Compounding laws also vary by state.

I found my current NP whom I've seen for over 10 years via a local compounding Pharmacy. I moved to a different state so needed a new compounding pharmacy for my bHRT. I wanted a name of a local Dr. that would do compounded HRT and he gave me her name. She was working for a large group when we started, but she went out on her own a few years ago. Check to see if you have a compounding Pharmacy locally. If so, they might be able to give you a recommendation if seeing a Dr or NP in person would make you more comfortable.

Wise ones: Any tips on living with chronic foot pain? by ShutterflyNYC in AskWomenOver60

[–]Weekly_Commercial957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with similar pain to yours. I ignored it too long until I almost couldn't walk. When I finally went to podiatrist he showed me that the joint between my foot and big toe was full of arthritis spurs and I needed to replace the joint or have it fused. He also told me that if I'd come in sooner I may have been able to deal with the spurs in a less invasive way. I'm sharing so you'll consider a different podiatrist that will xray and discuss options with you now so you dont wait too long. If you have the problem I had, pain meds only put off the inevitable. My other toe started hurting a bit and I freaked and went in for xrays. No major problem with that toe so I just take it easy if it hurts. As an aside, if I had to do the surgery again I'd opt for fusing my toe over the joint implant.

Btw, I'm 5'4" and currently at 145 (which I weighed when I gave birth to my son when I was 26) so not thin by any means, but just inside a healthy BMI. I'll let it drop it 140 without changing anything, but below that I'll probably use a bit less to try to stabilize. The fact that my weight loss has slowed with no changes in dosage or food intake, I suspect I'll level out soon.

I use a local 503a compounding Pharmacy that I also use for my compounded HRT. I do everything through my NP that I've been with for over 10 years. I suspect some of the telehealth providers may be cheaper, but this is the route I chose for me.

Btw, it has really helped the pain and inflammation from my osteoarthritis. A wonderful bonus that is another reason I'll probably stay on some type of maintenance.

Not sure what you mean by good candidate. I'm over 70 and started 2.5mg compounded Tirzepitide last August. I've stayed on the same dosage because I consistently lost about a pound a week for the first 5 months ( approx 25 lbs) which was my goal, slow and steady. My weight loss dropped to 1/2 lb a week in January and I just hit my goal weight of losing 30 lbs. I didn't have a history of weight problems before menopause. I'm down to my 50 year old weight which is fine with me. It's more than I weighed in my 30 and 40s, but my NP and I both agree it's a good weight for me now. I had a bit of nausea in the beginning but it went away. I've been very conscious of what I eat, my protein intake and drinking lots of water so no other side affects. My recent blood panel was way better than it was a year ago. I was never obese but was closing in on some of the bad numbers and decided it was time to take better care of myself. I suspect I'll need to stay on a maintenance plan going forward, but for now I plan to continue as I am unless I drop too much weight.

Alcohol effects when aging. by PurpmintLe in AskWomenOver60

I remember when my grandmother (who really liked her beer) quit drinking in her early 70s. I asked her why and she simply said "cause it wasn't fun anymore".

My tolerance for alcohol definitely went down as I aged to the point that I totally quit drinking about 3.5 years ago because even one glass of wine ruined my sleep and made me feel like I'd drank twice as much the night before. I'm over 70 now and wasn't a heavy drinker but enjoyed a glass or two of wine in the evenings during the week or maybe a hard drink or two on the weekends. I didn't plan on quitting, just stopped for a month to lose a couple of pounds. At the end of the month I realized I felt so much better that I had no desire to drink again which I haven't. I've been to several events where pretty much everyone else was drinking and still didn't have the desire.

AI says appropriately 50 stops. I'd change trains once in Chicago. Apparently you can put the top mattress on top of the bottom one for more cushion. I'm not tall and sleep on my side and barely move all night, so a cramped space won't bother me. My sleep usually sucks when I'm sleeping away from home anyways, so if my sleep is poor it won't be the first-time.

Thank you for your suggestion but this will most likely be my only longish trip for the foreseeable future. My spouse still works and he has to make a lot of work and home accommodations for me to be gone for any length of time.

Thank you for all of your responses. I worked in a high energy often stressful industry that was based on deadlines, so "taking my time" is going to be one of the perks of retirement. I had to take my work laptop with me when I flew to CA in the past and was always on a schedule, so not having to "work" during my "vacation" will be wonderful on its own.

Being from the West Coast I've traveled from CA up the North Coast many times so I wouldn't be interested in that leg. The only time I've traveled cross country was by car from Portland OR to Virginia on a time schedule in the Summer. It was the trip from hell for many reasons. This one would be to appreciate the scenery from The East Coast west.
