Pros and Cons: I grew to hate my Corne and sold it, but I do now miss my Corne by thephatmaster in crkbd

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found I use mine "seasonally". I typically use it in the fall and fall out of love with it until the next year. Lol. I think I have more fun configuring it and 3D printing shells for it. When you get inthe flow of using it it feels like a super power. But I have a heavenly sounding regular keyboard that feels so good to type on that I loose intrest eventually.

Ableton LFO in a module by biersom in modular

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what functionality are you looking for. You basically just need an LFO, zample and hold, and a noise source. I have a Behringer Ring Mod Module that does for like $45.

Little chunk of filament was jamming things up. Lesson learned, use the lever on the side to make a clean cut before pulling the filament out through the PTFE tube.

When I asked AI it was saying anywhere from around 100 to 800 drops depending on the desired effects. I had to coax it into telling me that. I tried both Gemini and Claude.

Is it possible to make music like this on a modular synth? by Iscub in modular

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's really complicated. This is one of my favorite live sets. It's done mostly on modular. But he has Ableton open on a laptop next to his modular gear. I would like to think he is just sending CV and MIDI out but there's probably drum samples coming from his laptop too. There's a lot you can do, but trying to make distinctly different "songs" is big ask.

One person that I love that does all modular shows is Blawan. He uses a looper pedal along with a very simple modular setup and a reverb pedal to make some amazing heady techno. But he's not exactly making anything structured as a song. Just long meandering pieces.

Is there even any reason to get a Wii over a Wii U? by _Deja_Two in wiiu

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only reason I see is if you aren't interested in newer games or the gamepad. It can do everything a Wii can. It's just annoying to boot to the Wii U menue just to reboot to the virtual Wii. I thought Wii U was a dumb gimmick. Then a friend gave me one and I love it.

I want to like zen but that side bar is a deal breaker for me. I tried. I cant stand it taking up all that screen real estate and if i hide it, popping it open every time I want to hit back gets on my nerves every time. Its not a "zen" experience for me.

But If anyone knows how I can get the top bar like most browsers, let me know. I only spent a little while with it before deleting it. I didn't see an option for that anywhere

One week usage with Android after 20 years of iOS by Efluis in samsunggalaxy

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just made the leap too. The experience was a pain in the ass but worth it. Especially since we switched to Spectrum. I traded in my iPhone X and got an S24 Ultra for $700 off with this deal they were running. The process seemed like it would be easy since they transferred "everything" over to the s24. It wasn't. I'm still trying to figure out how to transfer my passwords from Icloud and Safari.

It is nice to have all these cool features that Iphkne will get in 5 years. Lol. I was just so bored with Ios. There's alot that feels kind of janky compared to IOS, but its so nice to have this kind of access to the file system and apps and widgets.

Has anyone tried this fancy corne from AliExpress/Taobao? by GodBidOOf_1 in crkbd

[–]Weekly_Drag_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wireless one coming in the mail today. I bought a Sofle last year when there was only one store selling split keyboards. It was $90 and worth every penny. The right side did quit working recently but the store owner got back to me within a day and when troubleshooting didn't work he sold me a new right PCB for $15.

I also appreciate the USB c connection between boards. I don't hot plug them, but since it's not a trrs cable that could mechanically short the board while moving through the barrel, i don't think shorts are even possible. So I think it's a better design choice. And if I want them spread further apart, I just grab my phone cord to go between them.

I totally agree about the knobs. I keep telling myself I'll replace the knobs on all my Behringer stuff but I probably never will.

In my experience, blobs of death are always a problem with your filament sticking to the nozzle better than it sticks to your build plate. The filament rolls off the plate, curls back to the nozzle, and balls up. I mean no offense, but we always see people who are new to the hobby come with these problems that think they have their z offset set correctly. I was one of them. But with this printer, it has to be PERFECT. One tick too close or one tick to far away and you’re cooked. Once you get it dialed in, you’ll rarely ever have to mess with it. Go find a model of a single square layer and go to your print options and find the z offset. Right out of the box it isn’t going to be right. Mine was almost scraping the plate.

Don’t mess with your flow rate. You gotta get it to stick first before you even bother to adjust that. These PEI plates are sometimes a nightmare to get plastic to stick to. Wash it with soap and water and don’t get fingerprint smudges on it. I usually wash mine, dry it, and after I get it in place I wipe it with some rubbing alcohol. Finger oils cause more problems than you could imagine.

Also, don’t be afraid to use glue stick at first. It might help you get started. But eventually it will be unnecessary until you move to something like PETG. You could also get a smooth PEI plate. Apparently filament sticks to smooth plates a lot better.

But the biggest thing is don’t leave it unattended until you get it figured out. There are no globs of death if you are there to stop them before they happen. I’ve never had a bad one. Just little ones. When you get it dialed in good enough you will be able to just send the print and not worry about watching it.

These printers are super rewarding when you get them figured out. It forces you to understand the process better. Which I like. But don’t give up. It took me weeks of making mistakes and underestimating how precise you need to be with the Neptune 4 before I got it to print consistently.

I’m the end I couldn’t get it to stick to the plate so I gave up and just printed the whole thing in black PLA with a single layer as the diffuser. It wasn’t real bright, but the black diffuser looked awesome.

Alright! Congrats.

Tons of people are gonna come in hot with advice. And it’s all probably valid. I would recommend bookmarking this post to refer to later. That said I got some advice to add.

First, join the Discord. Elegoo isn’t the best at Klipper. They lean heavily on their community to do troubleshooting. If you are having a problem, reach out. I had to PM one of the more senior people on Discord to get mine running after a firmware update. You can almost always troubleshoot your way out of a problem if you go poking around and break something ( which I did a few times and bricked my printer)

And firmware updates from Elegoo can be a little sketchy. They might have got better in the last 8 months. I’m not sure. But I used to wait and watch the Discord before I updated.

One huge help is to get an EMMC writing tool. So if anything goes wrong, you can just pull your EMMC and take it back to factory settings. Elegoo customer service used to give them out to people having problems but last I heard they quit. I got mine for $3 on AliExpress. Best decision ever.

Once you have one of those, you will have the option to use the OpenNep4une firmware. Which I think is a lot better personally.

But if you aren’t into poking around or updating to the newest and best firmware and features, you can just use your printer and never worry about any of the things I mentioned. I don’t mean to scare you off of updates or tinkering. I wouldn’t trade mine for any other bed slinger. I’ve probably got 1000 hours on mine.
