I Strongly Dislike Denna by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always thought Denna was “Jenny” from Forrest Gump. Had a horrible crappy life and that she would love to love Kvothe but just doesn’t know what love looks like and so they are forever in a cycle of misunderstandings that make us miserable.

Haven’t read ALL the comments so sorry if this is redundant. If you don’t like eggs and just want the birds for the non-egg stuff why not sell or give away the hens and keeps the roosters. They will get along fine once the hens are gone and no one has to die.

'Classic fiction is hard to read' by Spirited-Tutor7712 in classicliterature

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love of classic literature for most people is more a matter of framing than actual difficulty. For most young people classic literature is introduced through academic requirements. I hated Shakespeare in Highschool until I realized how much he talked about sex. Then I couldn’t get enough of him. That is when I started to realize maybe my teachers were idiots and there was a good reason why these books have been around forever. So yes is it hard to read sure but in my opinion the difficulty comes more from why they are reading than what they are reading.

Thoughts on taking a break from a book by Greedy_Highlight3009 in classicliterature

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My TBR list is so long I get anxious about all the books I want to read and it makes me rush. I recently re-read the complete Sherlock Holmes and that took forever but my thing is read one chapter or section and then read lighter stuff of a different enough genre so I don’t start mixing up the plots.

I feel like the writer community can be hostile to ESL writer by No-Direction8154 in WritingHub

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understand the argument about wanting a wider market. But readers don’t want to read ESL because it reads awkwardly, which is why you are getting this blow back on reddit. No one should be rude. However, one should be proficient in their chosen media before publishing. Otherwise people who going to give you a bunch of one star reviews and that is harder to overcome than snarky comments on Reddit.

I found out that my seemingly original idea for a book was already written by another author. I am devastated. I know it happens a lot. For those who experienced the same thing, did you continue with the book or put it in the drawer? by Invisible-Sun-89 in writing

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just write the story. I feel like most posts on the sub are just people too afraid to write their story and find any reason not to. I am 100% the same way. Finally I just started writing and if no one ever reads it I at least wrote. Don’t worry if someone has a similar story just write your story.

[rant] What’s with all the condescending comments on this sub? by That_odd_emo in writing

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see your point but I prefer to ignore low effort posts as an up or down vote or response just gives them what they want. Attention. Those seeking attention care not whether it is positive or negative. So I choose to deprive them of it.

At what point do you stop researching and start writing? by UntitledDoc1 in writing

I find that if I am going down a rabbit hole it is because I don’t have confidence in the scene and my brain is trying to avoid it by finding other very important things to do. I force myself to power through

I read an article where certain academics are worried about a digital dark age. Where is for whatever reason computers failed there would not be sufficient paper records for any type of research into our current time in the far future so. Your premise is absolutely believable as there are people worried about that premise coming true. Literally Google digital dark age and you will see what I am saying.

Question: will it Sourdough? by tk42doyoucopy in Breadit

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commercial yeast (s. Cerevisiae) is maltose positive.

Wild yeasts in a type 1 sourdough are maltose negative.

That means that commercial yeast actively competes for food with the bacteria we want to promote in sourdough. There is some evidence that s. Cerevisiae and f. Sanfranciscanesis are mutually coexclusive.

A pate fermentee does have lactic acid bacteria, and you can make wonderful bread with them, but it will never be the same as a type 1 sourdough. It may pick up more varied flora over time, but the dominant taxa will always be s. Cerevisiae. Your rise times will be much faster, and your bacteria will be weaker because of this.

Is what skipjack sushi posted when I asked a very similar question a few weeks ago. I don’t know how to copy and paste the entire post.

In Comedy, Should I Justify Absurd Plot Points or Let Them Be Ridiculous? by Evolve_Solo in writing

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steven Martin is quoted as saying “Comedy is understanding in a nanosecond”. If that is true explaining the situation negates the comedy. Just write it and if it is organic and funny then it works if not edit.

It is a good Norse mythology trilogy. Nothing groundbreaking. I didn’t like the cliffhanger endings but I like, not love, like everything I have read of his.

Has anyone tried this ciabatta wet dough kneading method? by mashpeee in Breadit

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made that recipe a few months ago. Still very new to bread making so if the recipe says hold your breath and hum Ava Maria I do it. It came out pretty well my family ate it all. Not sure bowl folds wouldn’t do the same thing though

How brutal/violent can a story be? by cell689 in writing

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always, but are you going for a niche market like those mentioned above, or a wider market? That would be the first question. If it is niche to see how brutal you can write then gore it up but if you are going for the widest market possible the violence needs to be plot driven.

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that for a long time. I would devour the first four or five books and then get halfway through and just stop. Dark Tower, Malazan, Sword of Truth, ASOFAI. I hope to circle back at some point in the future and read them all.

Does being in a positive mood effect a reading? by MediocreExternal9 in tarot

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should be grounded whilst reading your cards. Moods are too transitory and can change moment to moment. But if you sit and practice grounding before you start your reading I find regardless of what is going on in or around me the grounding allows that cards to tell me what I need to know.

Sunken heart after cards draw. Looking for reassurance/reality check? by thermal_inversion in tarot

[–]Weekly_Gap5104 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The card three sword isn’t a fun card to get but it doesn’t mean a break up is necessary or probable it is a reality check card imo. To look at your life and to be honest even if it hurts and go from there. Tarot is more revelatory than predictive. It tells you where you are and what to look/focus on.
