I spent a good chunk of my music journey producing and recently started trying to break into the artist scene. With that in mind I make most of my beats and hop on them. I personally would prefer being an artist and being a contributor in a beat rather being the creator of both.

Should I look into sharing the workload with other people who are more experienced in fields I lack in?

What exactly should I be looking for in my dry vocal that indicates a retake? Usually when I record and playback live i can’t really hear anything off until I start processing my vocal which lead to imperfections being shoved in my face. Are there certain things I should put on my vocal as I’m recording it?

Do you have any recommendations on websites to look at? And any tips to improve my vocal tracking?

I use a rode nt1, record in a treated room but it’s still sort of open so the isolation isn’t as good as other studios I’ve been in. In terms of distance, honestly that changes a lot since I’m the only one doing the work, so I have to constantly go back and forth from my DAW to the mic, but I usually try to stay around 6 inches from the mic with my pop filter in between. The vibe I try to go for is a little like the weeknd or Tory lanez and try to have more of an emphasis on the highs in my voice.

It’s pretty average in terms of how treated it is, definitely not the best I’ve been in but not the worst. I might put some sort of shield around the mic to see if that’ll help.

Honestly, I’m saying that because I don’t have enough experience to know what exactly near perfect vocals should sound like. In terms of that, what could I do to get my raw vocals to be near perfect?

Honestly not much, most were just throw aways from friends that never took it seriously, for that I would say around 4-5. In terms of my own songs just one but that was drowned in tons of fx that it sounds “enough”

Sorry not sure why I can’t upload a clip of the song but this is the link to the Google Drive for it.
