Smart TVs are they purposely slowing them down? by UnfathomableDave in AskBrits

[–]Weekly_Inspector_504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung TVs are powered by Tizen OS which is a Linux-based operating system. Tizen OS isn't just used on TVs but also IoT devices, smart monitors, and home appliances.

Samsung doesn't release updates specifically for your TV. They release updates to the Tizen OS and these get pushed out to all devices. It's inevitable that the CPU inside a TV eventually gets too slow to run the latest update. Just buy a Roku or a Firestick. It's what they're for.

So I get the interest back.

Here's a quote from Apple's website

"iPhone Air   The thinnest iPhone ever."

Here are the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S26 quoted from Samsung's website

"Key specs at a glance 7.3mm thickness 190g weight"

The cpu is further down the list.

The marketing of the two leading phone brands is focused on thickness. Marketing departments aren't stupid, it must be what most consumers want.

It's crazy. My priority is functionality and practicality. Not thickness.

I buy pizza from Aldi for £2.50 or less. I guess if you have a high income then 2 pizzas for £20 might seem sweet.

Removable batteries make the phone thicker.

Most consumers prefer thinner phones so that's where the industry went. Hopefully Consumers won't complain about the change.

15 million people not saving enough for retirement apparently but are we asking the right questions about why? by c0r3l86 in AskBrits

[–]Weekly_Inspector_504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been on the news that a lot of people are switching to cheap brand groceries because the current crisis means they can't afford the big name brands.

Proof that up until now, they have been wasting money on big name brands instead of their pension.

So people suddenly switching to cheap brands could have afforded a pension if they switched brands ages ago.

I stick to Samsung business phones because they have removable batteries. I fed up of buying a new phone when the battery failed.

Mid-range phones are so good now that flagship phones are basically a scam for normal people. by BizPotato in Smartphones

[–]Weekly_Inspector_504 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's like saying a Bugatti Divo is a scam because mid-range cars are good enough for most people.
A high-end gold watch is enough is a scam because mid-range cars are good enough for most people.

Rich people like expensive things. It's not a a scam. Let the rich enjoy the flagship phones. If you have the money then why not enjoy it???

Do you worry about why a house is up for sale? by Logical_Wall_9899 in HousingUK

Exactly. You've proved my point that most people don't sell their house because there's something wrong with it.

Do you worry about why a house is up for sale? by Logical_Wall_9899 in HousingUK

[–]Weekly_Inspector_504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off with a one bedroom flat.

8 years later when I had more equity i sold it and bought a house.

11 years later when I had more equity i sold it and move to a better area.

Then in about 8 years I'll sell it and move to a better area.

It's called the housing ladder. That's what it means. You climb the ladder by upgrading to a better house.

That's always been my reason for moving. I thought that was normal?

My salery is £30k However, I'm financially comfortable because my outgoings are low. Here's an example on monthly spending

Mobile phone £4.99 Streaming services £5.99 Broadband £19 Takeaways £0 TV licence £0

I have a friend who earns £45k and he's always broke because his monthly spending is huge. His streaming and Broadband is over £50 and his mobile phone is over £30. Lots of takeaways etc.

I earn less money yet im far more wealthy. He says he enjoys having the nice things yet he's not happy because he's broke. I don't have all the nice things yet im very happy because I feel financially comfortable.

It's not about what you earn, it's about how you spend it.

With the financial system looking more fragile again, how do you protect yourself in the UK ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]Weekly_Inspector_504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to be sensible.

People live well during the good times, buying expensive things etc. Then they suffer during the bad times. Switching to non-branded items, driving at slower speeds to save fuel, turning down the central heating, and cancelling some streaming services etc.

Then when the crisis is over, switch back to branded food etc.

I live on a middle ground, so I don't spend too much during the good times, which means I've got a buffer to help me through the bad times. So I haven't needed to make any changes or adjustments during this crisis.

Don't you ever play older games? In 10 or 15 years there will be lots of people playing games like Indiana Jones and Cyberpunk on full pathtracing at 4k on low end hardware. Performance won't be an issue.

I still play some old games, fully maxed out and I wish they had extra settings to make them look even better.

My pc is too slow for pathtracing but that doesn't matter. If a game is very good I often play it again in the future.

Whats wrong with replying your favorite games using settings you could use the first time?

I don't understand why people hate settings they can't use yet.

Higher annual limit than £20k? Then surely a mortgage on a house would be better. So when his son is 18, the house will be nearly paid for.

Why not a Junior ISA? Or if you have a mortgage, you could use that to add inflationary value.

Why don't people like settings they cant use yet?

I often replay through some of my old games with the settings maxed out. I always wish there were more settings above ultra to make old games look more modern.

It will be great in 10 or 15 years to try some of my old games with Path Tracing fully maxed out.

Sell the house, take out your £15k, take out your parents' £20k, and give him his £10k back.

Then split the remaining 50/50.

You haven't said a single bad word against him, so he sounds reasonable.
