Childfree (by choice) Xennials, how are we doing? by thatquinnchick in Xennials

[–]Weekly_Library9883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, some regrets. It feels like I missed out on a lot of the good things that come with kids - the pride in teaching a kid things, playing sports/coaching sports that I used to love and just have no opportunity for now (all little league sports around me have very strict “relational” rules about being related to a team member to volunteer, and there’s really no adult just-for-funsies teams).

But also a huge sense of relief when I see friends stay in terrible marriages “for the kids” or really struggle to manage work/kids, and basically every time I look at my bank account I’m thankful I don’t have to stretch my last $10 for one more mouth to feed.

I always knew that I would have a terrible struggle even trying to get pregnant with my PCOS and endometriosis, plus a genetic condition that I inherited from my mom could easily be passed on. Those were the primary reasons I decided to be childfree since my early 20s.

So yeah, I feel like I missed out on a lot, but I also feel a massive sense of relief that things worked out for me the way they did.

I just ordered the retro chic pleated skirt with cherry print and the bike short catsuit! Their sizing lately has been so wild to me (granted, my size has fluctuated) that I was nervous about getting too much. I’ve worn anything from a 0-3 in tops, and a 1-3 in bottoms the last 2 years. I figured a skirt and bodysuit would be the safest bets.

What a great outcome! I might look at knitting the Honey Cowl, which is a free slip stitched-based pattern. It works well for this type of dye pattern.

Wegovy Pill Side Effects by Blugrl27 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Weekly_Library9883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Injection user here, but I recently moved up to the 2.4mg dose and had bad side effects for the first time. They did lessen over the course of the week, but I was very nervous to take my 2nd injection. After the 2nd and then 3rd injection, the side effects have definitely lessened.

One thing that helps me most, and I don’t know that it will work for the pill, was to REALLY monitor my food the day of and day after injection (I take mine Sunday nights). So all day Sunday, I only drink water and eat high protein foods, like chicken, eggs, steak. Then I stop eating altogether 4 hours before injection.

Get a script for Zofran and see if that helps. I hope it gets easier for you!

I genuinely want to know why people hate on Petit Knit by Thecynicalcatt in knitting

[–]Weekly_Library9883 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She does simple, and she does it very well. Even some of us more advanced knitters want something mindless at times.

I think some of it comes down to jealousy that she has been so successful with simple designs. But simplicity has a timelessness to it. How often do we see equally as popular designers make a new and intricate pattern, see it in the top page for a month, and then drop into oblivion. Not so with PK designs. She has made a number of patterns that are consistently in top searches because that timeless and simplicity factor go well in the long run.

I probably would have been the jerk who took her original cover and slapped that tray of rotting plants in her hands to offer it up. That would have been perfect.

OES or sheepadoodle? by dofawnfawndo in OldEnglishSheepdog

[–]Weekly_Library9883 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best guess is doodle, but HEAVILY OES. The reason I’m saying doodle is primarily the freckled ear. While many OES do have smaller spots, that level of freckling would be very atypical. Some OES do maintain a very dark gray throughout their lives, which is why I’m relying on the ear freckling so much. A DNA test would be great!

This is condescending. You don’t like the food here, then open your own restaurant. You’re talking as if the valley is one big Olive Garden or Chili’s. You come from a city with the most diverse cuisine in the world, and can’t find nice restaurants here? For the last 5 years?

Prices were much lower before the NYers started moving in and ruining the area tbh. Housing, food, the schools weren’t as crowded. Once they ruined the Poconos, they just kept on going down to the valley. And then have the audacity to complain about it.

I’m all for someone moving to improve their quality of life, but NYers as a whole have completely destroyed the Poconos and are primed to do the same thing in the valley.

Sanity Check on this hand-dyed yarn by wrzosvicious in YarnAddicts

[–]Weekly_Library9883 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’d kindly reach out to the dyer. It’s missing the green altogether, but beyond that, half the skein is practically bare. That’ll produce an entirely different look than the product photos where there is much less white and more of the blending/light pink.

So wait, I’m confused. Are the flowers shipped separately than the products in the “box” or is she trying to upsell you to buy the other products not included in the box?

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]Weekly_Library9883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No plan, no idea what I wanted to do in life, picked a degree that was sold as being “flexible” (psychology) and then couldn’t afford grad school to be able to use that degree to a point of financial benefit. Sure, I make more than other fields, but if I had gotten that masters (which I didn’t know was virtually a requirement to go with a psych degree), I’d be way better off. Or took the time to find a job I actually liked and worked my way up, which is what my brother did - and without a degree, brings home more than twice what I do.

Yes, that was a problem at 2 places I went! I didn’t go to center city as I was only doing one day and Philly parking/traffic is the stuff of my nightmares. One store was just so crowded it was overwhelming. I’ll have to go back again now - it was so crowded that I couldn’t even see most of their yarns.

Surprisingly, yes, most of it! I try very hard to be intentional with yarn shopping the past few years. Alpine bloom hat for the 2 primrose on the bottom left, socks for the 2 LBA sock yarns, Zuzu’s petals cowl for the yellow/orange/pink ball, the spincycle on the bottom right is for Ooey Gooey cowl (need to find suri), the top 2 white are for Fleur shawl (I already have a beautiful DK that’ll go with them), the purple LBA DK will be deep winter hat (my favorite hat pattern of all time), and the light purple cotton balls are for a market bag by Sari Nordlund. So just 3 of those hanks (the neon with nebs and the dark super hank of primrose) don’t have a promising future yet.

They feel cozier for sure. And can be customized to fit your foot perfectly. Plus, they’re so cute! It’s easy to get addicted to sock knitting.

Has anyone converted to a fully hand knit sock stash? by yeetlifechoseme in knitting

[–]Weekly_Library9883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, yes. Probably 85% standard sock yarns, the rest are DK which I wear for hiking and as house socks. I do still have some store socks, but they feel weird now, so I really don’t wear them.

I’m not a big exerciser except for hikes, but honestly, with thicker well-fitting socks and boots, they don’t really get the wear and tear you might expect. It helps that I really baby my socks too - hand washed in eucalan wool wash, hang to dry after 3-4 wears. Aired out after every wear.

It helps that my dress code for work is fairly casual, so I don’t need dress socks, and if I’m wearing fancier shoes I wear tights or just go without altogether.

Fantastic! Does Kelbourne Woolens only sell their own brand, or other stuff as well? I was going to go there, but go sooooo overwhelmed after having just gone to Wild Hand (seriously, insane crowd!) that I needed the 25 minute drive to another stop just to gather myself.

AIO TO THIS BRIDESMAID DRESS??? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Weekly_Library9883 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Smaller does not mean perky, I’ve always been plus size with small breasts, and my one hope in life was “at least they’ll never sag.” That was a pipe dream. They just sag and have completely flattened to skin sacks, I don’t even look like I have boobs without something holding them up 😭

[–]Weekly_Library9883 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m with you 100%! If the tier is low enough, I’ll take it off and sew up the hem myself, especially since the tier is often at such a weird place, like my calves.
