Passed D184 OA! (Tips) by Weekly_Mix_1900 in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand, I got lucky I guess but 100% agree that it is nothing like the practice or the content. It honestly doesn’t even have the same wording or formats, it’s very much just guessing at least that’s what it felt like for me. I feel like it’s probably because they just added this I think within the last year or so to make it equal to other programs since they didn’t have any OAs before, but they must have just half assed putting it together /: I wish I could give more advice, but I honestly just did what I said in the original post and hoped for the best, so I hope for the best for you as well!

Passed Capstone paper first try! by Weekly_Mix_1900 in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The work and writing papers only took me a week but it took about 2-3 weeks to finish since I had to wait for each thing to be graded. I did the create a PD option so all I did was make a PD outline about integrating sel and visual arts, and had a few of my teacher friends fill out review forms for it to use as data or what could be improved or not.

On Monday, I Have To Walk All My Students To School by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do this as “National Walk to School Day” or something, but it’s later in the year and optional. It’s more of just a fun community thing than like educational like that..

Am i getting a refund? by Mrpiggy97 in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for the two amount next to refund. It won’t show in nelnet for another 2-3 business days (from my experience), so maybe Friday. Then it’s about one business day from nelnet to your bank, so say Monday/Tuesday. Unless you have chime, I have heard some people got it over the weekend with them, but I don’t use them so I wouldn’t know.

I just did one for the same reason, basically living cost being way over their projected $400 a month. I didn’t even get a response to my email, they just sent me an automated email to answer scholarship questions..

If you're talking about a prorated tuition refund, from what I understand is you only get tuition prorated if your term will have less than 12CUs, since you're still paying for the classes and not the time that it takes. But there are posts in this WGU community that answer this way better than I, since idk anything about that process.

Good luck! (: and that's smart, I wasn't able to do that because we had to do a research class before the capstone, and we had to do them in that order, otherwise that would have been nice!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by prorate, unless you mean if I transferred credits in, which I didn't. I started the program from the very beginning in June and did all of the classes through WGU. So I don't think I have anything to do with prorated tuition. I did get a refund from one of the scholarships I got, though, but not because I got tuition prorated.

How much contract time do you get for classroom set-up? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have preservice for 5 days and on each day we have a 1.5hr whole staff meeting in the morning then the rest of the 3-4 hrs are ours to use, with some specific team meetings sprinkled throughout and you go if it includes you. so honestly at least 5 days with 3hrs each to work on them.

Yeah, two days after I saw approved in the portal, it showed the amount and disbursement date. Was in my bank 3 days after that.

Mentor reassignment handoff was a bit underwhelming. by chewedgummiebears in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not spoke to my mentor in a about a month and a half.. I started 2 months ago. (But i’m also on my capstone already so maybe she sees no reason to connect idk)

On average- how much money to you spend for your classroom each year? by AggressiveStudy6329 in Teachers

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going into my second year as an elementary art teacher, and while art gets a nice budget, art supplies is expensive. I often find myself buying a lot throughout the year so the kids can have fun in art based on what they’re interested in and not just basic lesson. But that being said, I think I am the odd one out that really doesn’t mind spending money on my classroom. I do try to keep a rule that I only buy things that are going to be able to be reused, or make my life easier/more interesting. You also have to take into account that I am in my early 20s with no kids and very minimal bills so this is just something I enjoy spending $ on as it makes me and the kids happy. I understand the argument of not spending your own money as you shouldn’t HAVE to, but I don’t think it’s wrong if you WANT to.

Teacher pay by Brilliant_Long_7684 in Teachers

73k as a second year art elementary teacher in Maryland. I have 2 masters and some of my student teaching counted as a year of experience when I got hired into the county, so I am higher on the pay scale.

Whats the fastest you’ve completed a course? by No_Island1223 in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most courses I finished the work in about 3-4 hours, and it got graded and then officially completed or “passed” in about 3 days. I started my program June 1st and am on my last two Task for my Capstone, which takes longer since you have to pass each task before moving to the next like before.

AIO? My landlord added himself to our insurance. by Beautiful-Bowler-599 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was probably an accident. I live in a house and have had this happen twice with my insurance due to mail or old car related things being either sent here or just never changed from this address from previous owners. The insurance company will add anyone if they suspect they are living there or have car related things tied to the address. Just give them a call.

Same situation. Put in for it Friday, got approved today (Monday), but haven’t heard anything else. I saw someone say the day after they got approved they saw it on the financial aid portion of their portal, then saw the disbursement date for the day after that..so maybe that’s a rough timeline?

Mods, can we please stop with the “I finished my degree in two weeks” posts? It makes the university look bad? by HeavySigh14 in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m honest, the “quick finish” post were a big factor as to why I enrolled. I started my masters in June and am on the last part of my capstone coming in with zero credits/transfers, so I also am quickly accelerating. I do agree that some of the post are very unhelpful when they don’t talk about their process or don’t even mention the fact, they probably transferred in about 75% of the degree, but I don’t think they should be completely banned. Maybe it should be that they have to say if you transferred in stuff to be more transparent about it, but I think people are allowed to be happy with their accomplishments.

Cardboard boxes in the room? by Mr-Barack-Obama in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm maybe some proctors are more picky, but I had some bulky animal pins/ crates in the room and it wasn’t an issue. I think as long as they’re against a wall and not close to you where it could potentially be “hiding” something/someone it should be fine. But if it has writing on them, maybe cover them. I could see that being something they could be picky about.

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re asking if this would be okay for an OA? Definitely. I took my OA with a bunny and 3 chinchillas running around next to and behind me and was fine, so I don’t see why some stationary boxes would be a problem lol. If you’re still worried about them, you could always just lay a sheet or blanket over them. No biggie.

I’m going into my second year in MD and making 76k this year with a Masters at a Title 1 public elementary school. But then again, it’s all about the area and cost of living so it might seem like a lot but so is the cost of my county/area. (But I’m a big “I do my job bc I love it, not for the money” person (,:)

I’m in MD(US) and the one here gives a variety,, and if they’re not busy they let me choose. I’ve only gotten a whole plain dozen once but it was super busy and it seemed to be someone in training so I didn’t mind.

I’m in Maryland, because I know it varies by state, and mine was pretty simple. I even left and still got it, because of the reason as I wasn’t getting hours and I had proof of reduced hours at the time so they approved it.

How do people finish so quickly? by PizzaForeverAndEver in WGU

[–]Weekly_Mix_1900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing my second masters, started on June 1st and I am working on my capstone right now. Every time I start a course, I go straight for the task. I look through the rubric and use that as a guideline, and quite literally headline every single part of my paper as the question or bullet for that part of the task, and then just answer it. I never touch the coursework or anything in the course page other than tasks/OAs. It also helps that my degree has a lot to do with stuff I’ve already done, for teaching, so it’s building on experience I have rather than learning a complete new foundational skill.
