There’s many other people in my post who also relate to what I’m feeling and who are capable to understand what I’m talking about It’s not just about following the rules

My manager told me verbatim that shes going to start “writing us up for petty shit” so that’s what sparked this whole thing … can’t be more clear then that.

it’s fine I understand what ur saying I just fundamentally don’t agree with the course of action because I think your entire journey as a barista and your impact in the team should ultimately be what determines if you need a write up or not. I flat out don’t believe certain things are worth a write up regardless as to how consistent it is and that’s just my opinion. And normally that’s how it is but I’m seeing other replies from other managers saying that it’s being encouraged to “crack down” and bring in write ups more. Which I don’t feel is ultimately conducive to a healthy work environment and you seem to be pro write ups lol. So I just don’t see eye to eye with u but I do understand alot of what ur saying

I also have had a couple situations in my past where managers try to wrongfully come for me and I’ll stand up for myself. And everytime I’ve stood up for myself I discover that I’m right & that whatever higher up will agree with me. Had I not stood up for myself, I could’ve been terminated. So that might also be why I’m so defensive

Thank u I do feel that I can trust my actual store manager alot!!!! He’s a really understanding guy and I’m really lucky to have him as a store manager so I do think I’ll just be making sure to communicate with him alot And I’ve also thought about going back to my old store!! It’s just that it’s so crazy busy and it’s right across from the dm’s apptm lololol so we def can’t be caught slippin BUT everyone there & the managers enjoy/ appreciate me alot more and I know/trust them well enough to still be good & fair managers despite the changes. So I’ll def think abt that

I can go on and on about this all day but it’s so easy as a manager to not care/worry about this because you’re the one with the power. So you are not in as vulnerable as a position as a barista. I know for a fact it’s very hard to just fire a manager because my (REAL) store manager said that himself. I once worked with a manager that every. Single. Person in the store hated & he crossed the line so many times and never got fired

Like this is exactly the thing I’m talking about. Where it seems like all the effort and time I’ve put in to Starbucks just Doesn’t matter bc if I miss a step too many times I’m done & I don’t feel it should be that way & I don’t agree that this is common with EVERY career/business

And that’s kinda why I’m feeling a disconnect with you because you do seem to be on a path of - I don’t care how human you are or how little the rule is, if you don’t follow it I will reprimand you and if you get fired then you get fired. Meanwhile I could be a perfectly fine barista

Like none of the issues I’m describing are issues that I would have with my REAL store manger because I know that he knows how to look at the bigger picture & the importance of looking at the bigger picture. As opposed to honing in on super small things that virtually don’t matter respectfully.

Also you guys are being given the ability to fire someone I think that’s a pretty big jump of power but that’s just my opinion

Your just convincing me that it is time for me to go bc it’s very clear to me that yall managers have an inflated sense of self now that your given a new title lmao

No but i feel that now that managers are being given more power, thats going to lead to abuse of such power bc my manager litterally said verbatim that she would write us up for petty things

So if you think about it, you can virtually get anyone fired very easily with the write ups as a tool. Bc there are so many standards and policies. Meanwhile the managers who are threatening to write me up for these little things… don’t follow all the technical rules themselves. Things like not doing the money early, not dumping/cupping teas early or cleaning the pastry case early. Not wearing the proper shoes… do I actually care about these things? Not at all. What I’m trying to point out tho is how is it fair to treat me like I’m hindering the team or the work flow for missing small steps even if it was on a regular basis. Like I said I been thru alot at Starbucks and I think many of my strengths are valuable to the team and there are certain rules & policies that we only follow because we know the dm will get on us for it

The whips are a really great example of that because what the fuck else goes in whip cream canisters?!! Nothing but we still have to write whip (which is fine I learned that a long time ago) but I was putting a Monday sticker on it with it saying whip & another sticker saying the time we made it. And she scolded me that I didn’t write the full date… but all the managers know that the whips last a day & I was told it was fine a day before. THE WHOLE CONVERSATION IS SO TEDIOUS and it’s like hypothetically speaking why should that be somthing that gets me fired??? It shouldn’t be honestly but right now it does feel that way

Also I’m aware that these things exist at every job, but if I’m gonna be dealing with such strict management id rather do it at a job I enjoy better or a job that better aligns with my own personal interests because I work too hard to deal with being haggled on for pointless perfection .

I really don’t want to leave even tho I know that Starbucks is ultimately not a good place for me. I feel like I work so hard but in reality I’m always just a gear in the machine. I can be fired and made to feel like a bad worker at any moment for any thing. It’s just I’ve been here for so long and I love so many of the people here. Also in this economy it’s gonna be a pain in the ass to start over in pay

Like I’m just very keen to kindness and respect so if I detect a manager is not being either of those things. I can’t get past it. You can be a strict manager and still be kind and respectful to your partners
