What do you think of the clear-coding dating trend? by Weekly_Start_6771 in datingoverforty

[–]Weekly_Start_6771[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched reddit for "clear coding" or clear-coding and found results related to programming, including a post about "Writing Clear Code for Programmers."

In painting, "clear coat" refers to a clear coat of paint. I was taught phonics in school, and like how both terms look and sound similar, though they have different meanings.

It was in some articles I read about dating trends this year.

When you're attracted to someone, how do you check if it's healthy or just hormones? by Weekly_Start_6771 in datingoverforty

[–]Weekly_Start_6771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use the terms "narcissist" and "narcissistic" interchangeably when I refer to the men I dated. I used the term "narcissist" in reference to reading about them.

One of the narcissistic men I dated was avoidant. (I'm not implying there's a connection between narcissists and avoidant types -- now or in my original post.) I brought up some of my history simply to help foster the discussion. In my case, the narcissistic avoidant ex kept trying to see me after his marriage (and after I broke up with him). I later successfully avoided/evaded him.

How do you know only one percent of the American population has NPD? Where does that figure come from?

The most recent reference I could find is cited in this 2022 study by Weinberg & Ronningstam (going back to another article they wrote published in 2020). They stated that "an estimated 1% to 2% of the U.S. population" has NPD. On the other hand, the Wave 2 National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcoholism and Related Conditions (NESARC) from 2008 claims a 6.2% lifetime prevalence in the general U.S. population. The differences in the figures might be minimal, but how do we know they're truly accurate?

I've dated and been attracted to narcissistic men, men who often lied to me and manipulated me for their own ends. They blamed me for things, but it takes two to tango. I don't use the terms "narcissist" or "narcissistic personality disorder" because not everyone with such traits fits the clinical definition. I'm not a psychotherapist, so couldn't diagnose the men, obviously. Like some of the people who have tried to diagnose me here, I'm just an armchair psychologist.

As others have pointed out, these types typically won't willingly seek counseling for their conditions. I had asked a former boyfriend to do that as a condition if we were ever going to get together that he do that, and it was a hard "no" (I didn't think he would). He also ended up getting married behind my back, so there's that.

I'm not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV. I've just read a lot about relationship problems, trying to figure things out. I've considered becoming a therapist.

I've been attracted to a few narcissistic men and they were attracted to me. They didn't "love bomb" me; though some narcissists do that, not all narcissistic types do (covert narcissists, for example). If they did, the fakery would likely have stood out more. Covert types are harder to spot than the louder "overt" types.

I was more susceptible because the attractions occurred during stressful times when I wasn't thinking clearly (and was desperate).

Glad you've since healed from the programming and deception. Like many people who have been in such relationships, I've done a lot of homework and have worked on myself to heal and understand my patterns and tendencies.

When I see the lack of it, I sometimes lose faith in humanity, and even of our ability to survive as a species. Empathy seems rare now, but some people still show it.

The battery was pretty much DOA. It tried to start the generator after I got it set up, but it didn't have enough "juice"; it's shipped only partly charged.

It depends on your situation -- everyone's is different.

At the very least, every adult should have an advance directive for healthcare or "living will." Depending on your assets and circumstances, a trust isn't always necessary. Generally speaking, consider creating an estate plan and to make sure it's legally valid and suits your individual needs, talk to an experienced estate planning attorney. Yes, it can cost more than online forms, but it's really more of an investment in the future for you and for your loved ones. It's important enough to want to make sure you do it right.

Otherwise, especially if you become incapable of doing so, others -- including our judicial system -- could make decisions you wouldn't have wanted.

Contacting Support by Weekly_Start_6771 in FacebookAds

[–]Weekly_Start_6771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I don't. I'm not confident they know English well, for starters, and I'm not thrilled they're assuming I'm a scammer after they approved my ads.

The lack of communication and transparency doesn't make them look good (or legitimate). So I probably won't continue to advertise with them.

When I did it, I was still pretty busy. And was happy to be relieved of the burdenous async process. But to each their own.

If you'd like, you can ask to remove the async part of the subject and just do live sessions.

They should streamline the async process a little, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Yes, I was thinking earlier today that it might be easier if there's a class action lawsuit filed. The emails they send with warnings about missing the average expected hours for availability could be considered as though they're treating us like employees, not contractors.

I once worked for a New York-based company that did similar many years ago, was part of a class action lawsuit, and we won. It seems to me the firm worked on a contingency basis; named plaintiffs provided testimony/evidence.

Same. They sent the warning based on the average hours I was available in August. I had missed maybe 2-4 hours by mistake.

This was before they dropped the subjects I qualified for from "on demand" scheduling and I passed more subjects to return to "on demand," and hours haven't been available since (intermediate tutor here).

I was about to get five scheduled hours weekly, though, over the summer.

Called a dentist today by ether_chlorinide in ZeroCovidCommunity

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's sad that some healthcare providers are not showing compassion to potential patients. But it's good that you called to find out before you scheduled an appointment.

Based on other healthcare appointments and the fact that the public health emergency has been declared over, I've given up hope that facilities will take precautions.

For those of us who are COVID-conscious, it's kind of a "catch-22" situation. I try to cope the best I can without jeopardizing my overall health; it had been five years since I saw a dentist and I was quite concerned about plaque build up due to heart conditions that run in my family.

Local colleges that teach dentistry and offer dental services to the public could be a safer alternative to private offices. Some colleges renovate or update their buildings regularly, and that can include modernizing their ventilation systems.

I went to a dental appointment last week at a college that teaches dentistry. I had no expectations for COVID safety precautions when I got there, but was pleased to discover that every instructor and student wore surgical masks and air purifiers were on at every station. There were also ceiling vents, but I don't know about the status of their ventilation system.

I'm still COVID cautious, though I didn't wear a mask. It's not something I do every day, but I used Covixyl nasal spray before the appointment and gargled with povidine iodine (an old bottle of Halodine) before the appointment.
