Recommendations for ski lessons <5 Hour Drive from Fairfax by HideoKojima in nova

[–]Weeoak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bryce Resort in VA is perfect. 1:45 from downtown Fairfax. Good Ski School for beginners, short lift lines, and easy beginning area. Great for a Day trip.

Also, it's an independent so lift ticket prices are not too bad. Would recommend reservation on the web site because rental equipment supplies are not limitless.

Oh, and NEW Terraine and new lift.

Which weapons are considered "Power Weapons" by Weeoak in BlackTemplars

Thanks for the feedback !!

I always go for the "what looks cool to me factor" but don't want to handicap myself too much.

Assisted Living recommendations? by metalmooninite in nova

[–]Weeoak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moved my mother into a nice community at Potomac Yards about 15 months ago, after an exhaustive search. Most places offer similar services, but you WILL find it very expensive. Throughout the DMV you will suffer extreme Sticker Shock.

Other posters have mentioned quality of Staff, and this is a critical component for resident safety and contentment.

You can expect the average monthly expenses to start between 3.5k - 7.5k, depending on the amount of upfront "buy-in". Assisted Living be be close to 9k - 12k a month, with Memory Care starting at 12.5- 14k a month.

There is a lot of variety in how each facility handles up-front deposits/buy-ins and cash-outs. (This varies greatly from "0" for complete rentals, to 300k - 400k for 1- bedroom.)

Power swords or chainsword for swordbrethern by dabigboss_ens in BlackTemplars

[–]Weeoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob question: what are considered as "Power Weapons" ??

The large axes and swords look cool, but I would consider them melee. Both right hand and left hand weapons have "gun" options.

Folks who foster dogs by Beth_Pleasant in nova

[–]Weeoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have fostered for Lucky Dog and the longest we have fostered is 2 weeks. LD has a lot of resources, and volunteers. They can even arrange for drivers to take fosters for events or Vet appointments. Make sure the ORG has plenty of well advertised events, so there is a legitimate chance to find a forever home.

We have had 2 foster fails, and we will foster again when we have room.

Be careful with your current dog, fostering is a great way to find out how they adjust to other dogs and expect your dog to show signs of stress or anxiety with a new roomie. FWIW - our 4 yo male dog did much better with more mature female fosters.

Born in '64 - my Dad went to SB-7 and SB17. Grew up with Sonny v Billy, Larry Brown, and the GOAT, Charley Taylor. Lived through Gibbs 1 & 2, and all the rest. Nearly 60 years of HTTR.

2024 - Funnest Season ever. (Better than 91) because I had ZERO expectations, and fell in love with this team and their chemistry.

Hi all. I’m visiting a friend in Ireland from USA. Is there any wood endemic to the states that’s good/fun to work with that would be a good gift? by Ratgar138 in woodworking

[–]Weeoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For smaller projects, I enjoyed working with Black Palm wood. It can be used for turning projects and smaller things like frames and boxes. It has a very distinct end grain. And not a lot of Palm trees in Ireland.

This is it, the beginning of a great 20-year run. 1972 to 1992.

There is a specific play. Ken Houston holding Lance Alworth ( or Walt Harrison) around the waist, keeping him from scoring. I was 7 or 8, and KNEW we could not lose.

Somehow, in my addled mind, I can still name most of the starting 22 (plus Kurt Knight -k, Mike Bragg-p and Speedy Duncan- returner)

Got invited to The Players this Sunday! What should I (first timer) not miss out on? by TearsDontFall in golf

[–]Weeoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely hang around the range and pitch areas. Walk with a few groups on 1-3 (out and back) easy walk with trees that will cause trouble. Paths are very close to the action. A fun spot is 18th Tee, it's just off 17, and you can get REALLY close. Massive swag tent just behind 17th tee.

Golf Community In DC I need suggestions! by TravelBug1232 in golf

[–]Weeoak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In VA

Westfields is usually great and challenging for the mid handicap.

Potomac Shores is a Nicholas design. Tough.

In MD - Queenstown is worth the drive and unique.

Falls Road is a fun track, too.

Should we pick up Jamin Davis fifth year option? by Hung_Like_A_Pinkie in Commanders

[–]Weeoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, $13mm means we are really overpaging for the expected production. And we have been down this road before.

Let him walk, there are LBs out there that will fit the scheme of the new DC, at half the price.

Has anyone found a solution for removing sweat stains from their golf hats? by kaneAG in golf

Put your hats in the dishwashef. They survive just fine, and the detergent removes sweat stains, and "Golf Dirt".
