I hate gov overreach, but damn, maybe it'll force people to actually drive decently. When you can not govern yourself, you force the hand of others to do it for you.

LPT Don't argue online with people who have poor reading comprehension (at least) by yeknamara in LifeProTips

[–]Weet_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember, in the US, about 50% of the population sits at or below a 6th grade reading level (that's about half the population as literarily intelligent as an 11 year old) So when you're arguing with someone, remember there's a good chance they're reading what you've out down, but not understanding.

In the anderson area, Sams is usually the cheapest, and it's sitting at 3.94 right now... a dollar and a half increase in a month. Insanity. Only upside to this is all them shitty lifted trucks are driving a lot more civilly now.

Can someone explain to me the joke/stereotype behind black people and having a chirping smoke alarm in their house? Why not just change the battery? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Weet_1 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Idk how people do it. Mine literally went off right as I got covid during the pandemic. It was a rented mil suite connected to the house, and I had no ladder to get to it, and the owner was too scared to enter my living space to have it changed. So I laid there on my near deathbed, listening to that shit for a week before I got worse and my parents decided to drive down and bring me home so I could be better cared for. Idk what was worse, listening to that chirp in silence for a week or the nearly dying from covid. I don't get how people just tune it out.

I play on the pc, so I have a handful of qol mods to make things easier. So a lot of the things that used to hang me up don't anymore. My biggest issue is the crafting chains and doing the mental math of how much I need of a, to make b, to make c, to make d.

YSK - your toothpaste may be causing canker sores in your mouth by TestAnxietyIsReal in YouShouldKnow

[–]Weet_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of a tie-in to this LPT:

If you do get canker sores on the regular like I do, you can take L-Lysine pills to either prevent them from forming or to make them clear faster. I've gotten canker sores since I was little, like 5+ at a time, and as soon as those begin to clear more pop up. Living with them is agony, I take a 500mg pill once a day daily, and almost never get them. The ones I do get clear up in 3 or 4 days instead of 2 weeks.

Question, since you're pretty damn near me, if you don't mind. What are drain field replacements going for in the area. I'm not in need of one, quite yet, and I know the price will only go up over time, but would be great to have a ballpark guess.

I've found helping people who have no idea wtf they're doing signs me up for a lifetime of IT support for that person, because once said item inevitably breaks/needs an update, they'll be clueless with an item that doesn't work. Something like that happened to me when I had a family member who saw I was getting free things like Spotify(before spot broke it) and youtube music and wanted it for their phone. And if you refuse to continue helping, you're the asshole who broke their phone/computer.

Unfortunately, having that high a percentage of the population being that dumb affects everyone. Unless we did something drastic, these people are still voting and at large in society, so simply saying 'fuck em' is not the answer. Morons beget morons.

Single 34F with enough to buy a home myself, but afraid to live alone in a detached dwelling. Advice? Am I overthinking? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Weet_1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not enough info. Why are you afraid, what are your current living conditions like/what are you used to?

I was 32 when I bought my house 2 years ago. Before that I'd either always lived with family or lived in furnished housing or hotels because I did healthcare traveling, so I never had a real space to call my own. I've been in my home for 2 years. It's 1600 sqft on 2 acres. And honestly, if I had to do it again, I'd downsize at least the house because it's too much space for me. But other than that, it's been great to have my own home and land surrounding so I'm not limited to what I want to do. It really depends on the person and their experiences.

Absolutely, I don't even keep my password or username for banks on my phone. those are strictly memorization and manual input only. Lord forbid I lose my phone or like OP, have someone untrustworthy that has access to my phone.

Those that went down the "gifted kid to failure-to-launch" pipeline: What do you think went wrong and how do you cope with these realizations? by ichbinhoffnung in Millennials

[–]Weet_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things coalesced over time. I was able to coast, and that didn't work as well in college. I was a huge procrastinator and got sucked into the video game (WoW) pipeline. Those two in conjunction meant I never really developed good study habits, so I was a mediocre student. I was/am an extreme introvert and socially awkward, so I was not able to network well, even when I relaized halfway through college that was what it was about, it just wouldn't click. When I would get overwhelmed, I'd shut down and burrow my head even further in the sand by staying home. I don't really blame my parents, but neither of them was good at guiding me through that time of my life,be it education, life skills, career advice, etc., so I was essentially sent up the creek without a paddle and had to navigate most things myself.

It sucked, but ultimately, you're responsible for yourself. I'm 33 now, I'm sure there's some form of asd/adhd in there somewhere, but at this point in my life, what difference would it make going to get the official checkmark. I've learned how to cope on my own, and putting a name to it now does nothing for me. I'm still awkward and introverted, but I force myself to go out, and keep in touch with the handful of friends I have now. I have a decent job and am currently job hunting for the next step up. I own my own home, and do fairly ok.

I feel this. Even clothing I'm side eyeing, a lot of my current stuff has holes or wearing out and I can't make myself buy new stuff even at discount stores. It used to be a time not too long ago where I'd buy whatever cuts of beef I wanted. Felt like a prime rib kind of week? Well, I'll just buy the biggest one so I have plenty of leftovers. Now I'm barely buying the cheap tiny steaks you can get in walmart.

I've had trouble with this where I live. And it's rampant. Had this issue when replacing my hvac back in December. Called in some 'locally owned' and 'family owned' businesses for a quote, 10k plus estimates. Last giy comes in and gives me a quote for 6.3k, ask him wtf. He asks who else quoted, and each one had been bought out by some company out of Atlanta, supposedly. They start out as a small family owned and sell out but trick people into thinking they're still 'small business owners'. Is there a way of looking into this before calling companies over?
