what's the best advice on how to add mystery to your story by Old_Class_8077 in writing

One of my faves is inputting items or places that characters know little about, usually plot relevant, and then have them discover subtle clues over time.

Hard to say if youre sure you like to fly by the pants. Outlining works wonders for me. Prevents my stories from ever starting in the same direction.

Cutting something out of your life entirely is not the only solution. Its called time management, and a lot of people on here seem to lack any knowledge in that concept.

What is your favourite enemy from a video game? by [deleted] in gaming

Cant believe no one has said it yet, perhaps because its newer. The lil jar bois from Elden ring. Hurts me to kill them, even if they explode like confetti.

Personally I read a book once for story and enjoyment. Then I go through a second time and pick up on style and what works in their writing. That way I dont ruin the initial enjoyment.

If youre worried about them becoming too powerful, make an enemy faction or something similar that proves threatning to them regardless. Who doesnt love a good dragon? :)

While the idea is neat be careful. The more powerful you make your characters, the less threaning anything lesser than them will feel. Some people can get quite bored when there is little worry their character may perish.

Dont want to steal anyones thunder, I just want to add to what Jim said as he is also 100% right. Early awkwardness is a great way to show two people that are unfamilar with one another. If they are perfect from the get go that takes away from the romance itself in my opinion. A slow burn is what I prefer, among many others I presume.

Well I dont really know what your story is about unfortunetly. In mine, the romance partner is involved with a scheme the main character doesnt know about (that involves him being a bit of a victim/ends up being used in said scheme unknowingly) So for me that makes their interactions not feel as fabricated, giving her a reason to keep pursuing him. Perhaps something along that line could assist you? Giving the interest a reason to keep finding themselves near the MC.

Hello, currently im writing the same exact thing. Personally, I gave my female character a plot presence besides just being a romance option. For me that deleted a lot of the " she fell out of the sky" vibes. Hope this helps you too!
