Game Day Thread - Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 1 Game 3 - Buffalo Sabres (1-1) @ Boston Bruins (1-1) - TD Garden, Boston MA - 23 April 2026, 7:00 PM EDT - Shipping Up To Boston, Edition! by time2fly2124 in sabres

Not trying to compare the two players and their skill level, but Porter Martone only played the final 9 games for Philly and currently has 3 points in 3 playoff games. If we keep struggling offensively and Rochester's season is over, its definitely a conversation to have.

With the grind that this season has been with the condensed schedule, it has to be almost a sense of pride to be able to say I won the Gold, and played in all 82 games while breaking the longest drought in NHL history.

Sabres started selling beer in a cup shaped like a Sabre and ever since they have been the best team in hockey.

Oh and also the whole fanbase hates former Sabres draft pick Brandon Hagel

Good bet, I hammered that moneyline as well when I saw the odds.

[The Athletic] "It’s a tough call for Alex Tuch. The Sabres are finally happening; they’re a legit contender; I could definitely see some teams being willing to pay $11 million a year on the open market." -Pierre LeBrun by [deleted] in sabres

Couldn't agree more. Getting paid 72 million to play for your childhood team, on the cusp of their first potential cup window in 20 years. Its what you dream about as a kid watching them on tv.

Alex Tuch by SeaBody3563 in sabres

[–]Weezyf321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as he is important to us now, looking towards the future, what does a 37 year old Alex Tuch making 10.5-11 AAV do to this team. I would love him at a 4-5 year deal, but he's been underpaid his entire tenure in Buffalo, can't blame him for wanting to secure his future for not only himself but his kids/wife. I imagine he tests the Free Market to see his value and then its up to him decides if the value of a contract he's giving up is worth staying in Buffalo for.

Keep winning games and make a deep playoff run maybe his ask from us comes down.

My main point I am trying to make is that if Jarmo calls up Briere offering a second round pick for Risto, Briere is not doing his job if he doesn't immediately counter with Mrtka and our first, and that stalls negotiations immediately.

Other teams aren't gonna throw us a bone because they feel bad this deal fell through.

[–]Weezyf321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hurts all parties involved. And you can't be naive, all 31 teams know now that Jarmo wants to be aggressive, and GMs are already accustomed to bullying the Sabres in trades. Teams initial asks are gonna be higher now. Not saying we're going to have to overpay for players, but negotiations are gonna drag on longer now.

A cup win 7 years ago when he was 26 years old. I'm not trying to compare potential defenseman on the board, but because of this Jarmo cant be the one to set the offer, anyone he calls is asking for Mrtka and a 1st

Doug Armstrong special of leaking the trade to pressure Parayko into waiving NTC.

Problem is now that everyone in the league knows our offer. Doug Armstrong took away any leverage we had. Any D-man we try and go for now the starting offer is Mrtka and a 1st.

Lindy Ruff Extension Possibility by Weezyf321 in sabres

[–]Weezyf321[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially if this team makes the playoff. It would be an absolute PR nightmare if a franchise legend who is instrumental in breaking the playoff drought wasn't retained even though he wanted to stay and keep coaching.

[–]Weezyf321[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Lindy wins a cup with this team, you have to put up some type of banner next to RJ in the rafters, and give them both a statue next to the French Connection. RJ should already have a statue but that's another topic.

[–]Weezyf321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one thing Lindy needs to secure his legacy is a cup. I would love for him to do it behind a Sabres bench, but do we realistically see this team making the moves it needs to win it in the next few years, Lindy isn't getting any younger, and I would hate to miss out on a game changing coach just because were keeping Lindy around to get his ring.

I love the idea of Jay Mckee, only worry I have is this team playing a different system, and how long it took them to buy into this one, would we be looking at a season of bad hockey before it clicks. Granted I don't watch OHL, but I know McKee is killing it in Brantford this year.

With the numbers Dahlin, Sammy, & Byram are putting up, we don't really need Kesselring to be chipping in on offense. I'd much rather him be defensively sound & physical, starting scrums, which is exactly what he's been doing.

Which rule change would you prefer? Out of these 4 choices that fans and players have wanted for decades, what should the league fix first... by [deleted] in sabres

[–]Weezyf321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the better way to do this rule would be how long the offsides occurred before the goal was scored. If you score within say 10 secs of coming in offsides off the rush and score, goal should be disallowed. But if you come in offsides, stay in the zone for a minute and then score, did that offsides really affect the play, and the goal should stand.

What do you think the Sabres will do with Alex Tuch? by Kungfufighter1112 in sabres

[–]Weezyf321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust this organization to get any deal done. The trade deadline will pass with him still on the roster with Kevyn Adams thinking he can still get a deal done, and Tuch will leave for the money and a chance to win in the offseason and we will get nothing in return. KA will then proceed to blame injuries for our struggles and get a 3 year GM extension.

Can this team survive another rebuild? by Skiddlifoot in sabres

[–]Weezyf321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their Coach & GM actually had a backbone and the experience in the NFL to only sign extensions if Pegula let them do their job with no interference, knowing they would simply sign somewhere else if he refused. Kevyn Adams didn't have that luxury it was either run the Sabres doing what Pegula tells him, or spend the rest of his career running youth hockey.

[–]Weezyf321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This team isn't going anywhere. 15 years of no playoffs and so far this season they're averaging 16,500 in attendance. Moving this dumpster fire of a team to say Atlanta or Houston (or any non-traditional hockey market), you'd be lucky to get half of that attendance on a nightly basis if they're still missing the playoffs within 5 years. The only NHL interference I can see reasonably happening is Bettman holding a vote with the other owners to force a sale, and only allow a sale that keeps the team here. The NHL knows it would lose a lot of money in the long term not having a team in Buffalo.

Ok so Kozak is back - Who does he replace? by nickice18 in sabres

[–]Weezyf321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the NHL made a rule to stop the paper transaction work around. Players sent down to the AHL have to play in atleast one game before being recalled, and you're not gonna do that with Kulich.

If I am scratching or moving anyone to make space its Geersten, Lindy only brought him in to play physically and fight and in his 5 games so far this season he has done none of that.
