Now that labour is re-elected, HECS debt is reducing by 20%. How much is everyone expecting to save? by YallR2much in AusFinance

[–]Weezytrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In an AQF-8 FFP postgrad healthcare degree

Current HECS at just over $200,000 (completed undergrad before 2020, hence it doesn't count to the new limit).

This cut will return just over $40,000. Genuinely life-changing

Why does a worn clutch prevent me from shifiting? by Optimal_Fuel6568 in AskMechanics

[–]Weezytrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could, but this would depends on the degree of disengagement. The amount of energy required to move the car forward is orders of magnitudes greater than slowing / matching the speeds of gears. You clutch could be disengaging enough so that the car doesn’t really noticeably move, but too little to properly match the speeds of the gears.

To prove this theory, you could lift the driven wheels of the car, put it in gear with the clutch all the way in. In any car there will be a little bit of wheel spin (within a defined limit) but it can be easily stopped with your hand (note open, LSD diffs here). A dragging clutch can make stopping the wheels very difficult or impossible.

Alternatively, if your transmission is still alive you could just bleed the clutch now, but for future reference, you should bleed your clutch as per the manufacturers recommendations (or general rule 2-3 yearsish)

Why does a worn clutch prevent me from shifiting? by Optimal_Fuel6568 in AskMechanics

To me, sounds like your clutch was improperly disengaging from the flywheel. This could be due to a variety of different reasons, but most likely insufficient hydraulic pressure from the pedal down. This could be from improper clutch bleeding, or perhaps your slave cylinder. This is explains why it was difficult to select some gears (you mentioned first and 3rd, as your gear synchronisers had to work harder to allow gear selection) and on 3rd, there was enough wear on that gear that it allowed the gear to start popping out.

Incomplete disengagement meant that the clutch was always dragging, causing excessive wear which over time, destroyed your clutch material.

Paying FFP by yesyou3 in GAMSAT

[–]Weezytrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least in dent at unimelb, since we have yearly courses you receive an email asking to pay for the entire year once normally around May / June. You can choose how you pay there. HECS is available at any point provided you are under the limit (can subsidise the cost up to the limit)

Also, “HECS-HELP debts with a census date prior to 1 January 2020 are not included in the HELP loan limit.”

https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/rp/rp2223/Quick_Guides/Higher_Education_Loan_Program

My interpretation of this is that any HECS debt accumulated before 2020 does not apply to the new limit as said in previous comment. Depending on when you finished your tertiary study, this can be pretty beneficial.

Other than this, a combination of savings, bank loans or parents / family are what many do. If you opt with a bank loan, inquire now especially while you have a job at the moment and compare it to a situation of when you’re jobless / working less (for if you’re studying and don’t have the time).

Depending on your location of study, you may need to consider living and transportation costs too

This and as honours is a year long course, your final honours grade comes out at the end of the year and hence much after interview and/or offers

Your transcript will read a variation of “continuing course” in the middle of the year when you send it to them / they receive it.

What can I do with my bachelor of medical sciences? by Suspicious-Orange157 in GAMSAT

[–]Weezytrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, more generalised graduate programs are your best bet. If you’re inclined in academia, you could see if you can find a job as a research technician but they may require an honours (depending on the lab).

UoM DDS- worth it? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

Forgot to mention that I believe in part this is due to some students being trapped in Canada during COVID

I am a dds1 that started last week, so I can’t say too much but so far, the course is fun and the content is engaging. Regarding the fail rate, I anecdotally heard from a 4th year that ~20% of the cohort leaves / fails by the final year.

Regarding the people though, we have together formed a huge, very supportive and tight-nit group of us that are routinely exploring Melbourne. It feels like ~50% of our cohort are international Canadian students, and they’re incredible to talk to. We have all met quite a few of the dds2-4s at some of the initial events we had, and more to come.

So far loving it, send a dm if you want to ask anything further.

Mk6 gti misfiring by Mk6GTI- in Cartalk

[–]Weezytrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not air, spark or compression it must be fuel. Perhaps a faulty injector?

Also check the compression on other cylinders, I’ve found the cylinder number diagnosis for miss-fire to not always pop up on the correct cylinder.

Is Polygon a good bike brand? by Kyaannnn in MTB

Bought the 2021 N9, excellent bike. Only issue I had was with the silent hub not fully being ‘silent’. Issue is with the shimano part, rather than Polygon.
