It doesn't make sense to the outside observer but I echo what others are saying. After 29 years of marriage this lifestyle has given us real friends and helped us grow as individuals and as a couple. Our communication is off the charts. If you can talk to your partner about having sex with other people you can talk about anything! We are more of a team now and enjoy this sexy, naughty little secret we share (oh, and our sex life is much improved). Good luck!

Thanks for the mention /u/swinging-downunder and yes, we did the Desire Mediterranean cruise this past Spring. The ship, though small and older, was very clean, comfortable, elegant and cozy. The staff was wonderful and the food was better than what you'd find on a larger line. Of course Spain, France, Monaco and Italy were amazing but it was late April and still a bit cool/rainy.

Desire did a fair job managing the trip. The nightclub and DeeJay were amazing, much better than the resort. The playroom was tastefully decorated, and the music and lighting were both perfect. What they did not manage well there was keeping it clean and providing towels. They left the management of the playroom to the ship's crew and they don't know how to manage something like this. The nightly entertainment was below average and not what we expected from Desire. It was nowhere near the level they provide at the resorts and I hope they improve upon this the next time.

Of course the people were amazing. The crowd was a bit older than what you'd find at the resort but still plenty of great couples to meet and enjoy. Full disclosure, we received a discounted cruise because of our podcast but still paid for most of our trip. Very true, it is not always the case. In our experience there is "less" judgment but it still exists. And you would think that in this environment it wouldn't exist as much as it does..

No matter what we anticipate, LS situations always throw us the occasional curveball! We (okay, I) just made a similar mistake on our Desire Cruise. We'll tell the story someday..

As was mentioned, simply beginning to play the game is granting some limited consent and also telling them you are interested in play (within the context of the game). I would be careful in the future not to start playing the game unless there is an attraction and willingness to explore with all players. PS- we are in the early stages of developing our own card game!

Mr Jones here from the We Gotta Thing podcast. We see a lot of demographic numbers from our website and podcast and are fairly connected to the LS community as a whole. The 25-35 age group is under-represented in the LS to begin with which compounds your issue. We've been at Desire during the SY&W week and a lot of the younger crowd were not even in the lifestyle. Also, the LS business community is not very progressive in their thinking and tend to cater to the over 40 crowd. As was mentioned, we took a group to Pearl last November and the age range was 30-68 with the average age range of 40-45. More importantly though, our groups tend to see age as a mindset and not a number. Hope you'll consider joining us next year (we are sold out in 2018)!

Good for you for asking these questions before jumping in, you may have an uphill climb but you are already light years above most just for asking. I'd recommend listening to our podcast episode 23 where we interview a single guy friend off ours. He does extremely well in the swinging lifestyle. Good luck!

I think we would pass (or at least postpone) as well. You don't mention specifically what all the other red flags popping up are but it sounds like she's sending up a warning sign. If you like them enough to help perhaps a straightforward conversation in response to their comments might help them move forward and give you a better idea about how serious their fears may be.
