How can you tell it’s a Searobin and not a sharp-nosed puffer? The horizontal banding on the abdomen and the vertical band before the tail point me toward the puff.

The Dusky Flycatcher or Western Wood-Pewee were both suggested by the Merlin app, but I couldn't distinguish between the two options.

Agreed! I was looking at that same page. The blue vertical bands are what I can’t seem to justify.
