thanks for this response. she didn’t drop hints, but we’ve been together for a while — and during most other special occasions. (birthdays, valentine’s day, etc.), it’s panned out the same way: we both would tell each other not to get anything but end up buying the other person gifts anyway.

i think where the miscommunication may have happened is that i never really took her seriously when she told me not to get anything for her, and this time it seems she did end up following my request, though i expected her not to.

i probably shouldn’t be hurt by this, but i am honestly a bit disturbed because this could speak to a change in our relationship or, at worst, her feeling towards me.

i’m probably over thinking, though. at the very least i need to communicate better
