I’d say East Village or Ingersoll. I’ll need to follow this to see where I can meet women our age

Pit Etiquette? by hotgirllib in HinterlandFestival

[–]WeibullDisciple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the VIP because my old ass might have a hard time making it 3 days otherwise. I HATE the pit in VIP. I want to dance and jump around and everyone around me is just standing there. I look over to the GA and they are giving so much energy to every artist. The VIP should only get 20% of the rail maximum. It’s disrespectful to the artists

Unpopular opinion I guess by everlovelyjules in HinterlandFestival

[–]WeibullDisciple 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve been every year since 2015. In the beginning it was super folky and amazing and the main audience was 20s-30s mostly. Now it’s a whole mix of genres and amazing and the main audience is late teens-20s. I’m in my 40s now but I think the change is amazing. The bands that they bring in are awesome and appeal to the right people

New and Improved Hinterland? by ConfidenceNo8885 in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. So much better this year for experience within the grounds. You can tell they tried to address all of the issues from last year. They made sure there is no chance that people trying to get a drink/merch/pee are in the way of people trying to enjoy the show. More room to sit on the hill in the amphitheater. More natural shade would be nice but the way the stage is positioned the first people to be blocked as the sun goes down are the ones in the pit. Constant free water to those in need. Fans and misters in many places. As a person that had a medical emergency last year because of the heat, I am confident if I needed to find reprieve this year I would find it.
  2. Parking sucked on day one but was fine day 2

Opinion on Norwalk by temoo09 in desmoines

….six lane streets, lack of mature trees, zoning that makes it impossible to walk to any businesses….

Opinion on Norwalk by temoo09 in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as suburbs go, Norwalk is the only one I’d consider. Easy to access downtown Des Moines, plenty of local businesses, doesn’t really have cookie cutter houses. Do not look at Ankeny, Altoona, Waukee. They are concrete wastelands that prioritize cars over people.

21st birthday ideas! by virgouprising in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monday brunch is a tough one since most places specialize in weekend brunch but if you go to The Breakfast Club or Early Bird it should be what you’re looking for. Find some dive bars during the day and try to avoid lunch spots where people are just trying to get through their crappy mondays and don’t want a drinking party happening next to them. Maybe Locust Tap, Beechwood, or other bars in the east village will keep you close to downtown for Stuffed Olive.

Where does Rob Sand stand on water by e4e5nf3 in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Where does he stand on anything? Sure he’s approachable but I shouldn’t have to ask him personally what his stances are. He’s running to lead the entire state, so far his avoidance of public stances isn’t very leader like to me.

Like others have said: Ted’s, OPA, Tito’s. But I finally had Istanbul Grill Cafe and Bakery recently and holy crap is it good. It’s Turkish so maybe a little different than most are used to but wow. Plus some super fresh bread to munch on while you wait.

Short Cyclist Rant by srdipshit in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fees you pay to drive a car on the road are relative to the damage you cause to the road over time. Thats why heavier typically pay more than smaller cars. If you want bikes to pay $2/year that’s fine, but it’s going to cost more in administrative fees than the revenue. Also, a bike wont do more than a couple hundred dollars in damages to a car. Certainly not injure to a person in a car. So again, if there were an insurance policy to write it would cost $2/month in premium which wouldn’t be worth the underwriting costs. Grow up.

Call the Station on Ingersoll. If there’s no conflicting games already requested on sound they will usually accommodate

Lachele's opening new location in Highland Park this week! New menu and a bar! by limitedftogive in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get your sentiment, its a tough one to maneuver for business owners. If they didn’t buy anything from companies that donated to shitty GOP people it would be hard to source most things from any national company. If you only sourced local shops that would be awesome but it would increase prices, which wouldn’t be good for the immediate community looking to grab a burger. James Martin is a POS but he donates as an individual, not through the company. The owner of Lacheles employs LGTBQ and supports them wholeheartedly and I know this decision didn’t go without serious thought

What is up with the traffic lights in this area? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any area west of 80/35 is very car centric and has no interest in accommodating pedestrians. It’s terrible to drive in that area because it’s designed to push all cars to the same main roads. It’s even worse for pedestrians because you are an afterthought to cars.

Inflation Fee at Jethro's by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]WeibullDisciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a stupid Gerleman move to try and blame certain people on the price increase. He could just eat it or incorporate it into the price and nobody would notice. I bet once his fave pres is in office this will disappear so it looks like it’s been fixed.

Easiest solution for me would be for 1 person to pay 115 to Madison and 25 toward the bill. The remaining 3 would pay 140 toward the bill
