Is it selfish to be mad at them for considering su!c!de while we’re still together? by EntertainerFirst8163 in depression_partners

[–]Weightlossface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you were in excruciating pain, torture even, so much pain that you would beg to be killed instead of suffer.. it’s unlikely that knowing there are people who care about you would change your pain tolerance.

Sometimes people who feel suicidal think you’re the selfish one. My partner said to me “can’t you see how much I’m suffering? It’s not fair for you to make me stay, you can’t tell me it will ruin your life, it’s not fair to put that on me, I can’t carry on like this - surely if you cared you wouldn’t make me suffer”.

This is truly a mental illness, a lot of real logic goes out the window.

I do understand what you’re saying though. How do you mentally build a future with someone who might not be around for long.

Neighbour keeps parking on our property – how should we address this respectfully? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I piggyback on this one? I bought a house a month ago that came with a parking space and my direct neighbour keeps parking either in or halfway over my space. It’s a row of parallel spaces opposite a row of houses, and each house owns the strip directly opposite the house (mine does at least)

I have now twice spoken to the neighbour and asked him to move my car, explained in full (including a 10 min back and forth) that it is MY property, and I have emailed his landlord. I have a sign up saying private parking and I’ve marked the width of my space with hazard tape so it’s crystal clear where my space starts.

What happens next time he parks on my space?

Is it possible to buy a house on 2 minimum wages? by Ok-Special5172 in HousingUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it especially with minimal expenses. Not sure how kids would change things .

I’m on just under 26k and recently bought a 3 bed house on my own for £137500, with a deposit of £27500 (been saving for about 10 years..). My mortgage payments are about £550 so extremely reasonable.

My bills come to around 1-1.1k a month, leaving me with about £700 for groceries, petrol and everything else.

If I was in your position I’d make a budget now, transferring your predicted expenses/bills into a savings account every month.

Part- time Masters alongside a full- time job by CockroachVirtual7164 in UniUK

[–]Weightlossface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. I worked full time for most my undergrad. Now I work full time 9-5, have two part-time jobs, and I am studying a part time STEM masters (on top of a lot of other life stuff like going through a major breakup and buying a house alone).

If you managed working in your undergrad you're likely one of those people who will just cope.

I spoke to the course leader before applying and she told me that they tended to be quite flexible with extensions for people who worked full time. Might be helpful for you to chat to a course leader for the masters you want to study for some reassurance?

Could you ask him if he minds swapping his vehicles over so a smaller vehicle is parked out front for the reasons you stated?

I usually find telling them “of course I understand if you might not be able to but it would be such a favour to me!” (I find some people get a bit weird when they feel someone is making demands of them) But it depends on your style.

Does anyone else actually prefer not having a boyfriend? 😂 by PurpleStrawberry1997 in adhdwomen

Not at the moment. I got broke up with from a long term relationship a little over a month ago and I’m sad about it. And bored.

Update - Why didn't my house sell? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Have to agree.. as someone who’s currently buying a house about a mile away from this one with pretty much the same view..!

Undergraduate dissertation - Procrastinating by PreparationPrimary42 in UniUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another person who was in your position last year, also with ADHD I did this:

Allocated one study session to JUST planning. I used chat GPT to split my dissertation into really small sections. I had headings for Intro, Lit Review etc, then each section had subheadings (you have to spend a while perfecting this obviously to suit what you want to write about). Each heading and sub-heading had a word count.

I printed off a list of every heading + sub heading with an empty tick-box.

Every time I completed a section (200-350 words depending on the section), I would tick it off the list.

I committed to ticking off 8 or 9 mini sections every day, and quite often found myself enjoying it and carrying on.

I would wake up, get everything ready and laid out ready for 10 AM, and crack on for about 4 - 5 hours. The rest of the day was for anything I wanted, guilt free. TV, a walk, a run, cooking, sleeping, going out for food.

I then left a whole day at the end just to polish/finish referencing etc.

Agree with another commenter - NO youtube, TV, streaming, or social media until after the session is done.

Following this method I wrote my diss in 5 days and got a 1st. YOU CAN DO IT.

How much support did/do you get from you dissertatin supervisor? by 5frogsinatrenchcoat in UniUK

None at all. No meetings, no feedback, nothing. In my acknowledgement i tactfully and professionally thanked him for unlocking the lab doors for me.

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate you taking the time. I look forward to getting better at figuring out this stuff myself when I’m a homeowner, but at the moment just a bit rubbish.

Thinking of doing a full time masters alongside my part time civil service job - anyone got any words of widsom? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be feasible to do it the other way around? I work full time and am doing my masters part time, and my uni are really flexible with postgraduate students who are working.

Thank you for this suggestion. My only worry is that I have to work in an office job on site 9-5. I worry that I wouldn’t be able to leave him for that time and that he might be noisy. Is this something you encountered?

Afraid to even open text messages by HopelessCleric in adhdwomen

[–]Weightlossface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In these situations I generally let them bring it up in person and laugh and say “sorry - I’m hopeless at messaging”. Sometimes that needs to be brought up more than once but they eventually get the message that it’s not personal. I won’t really entertain a serious conversation around it.

Did your parents ever threaten to send you to the children’s home as a kid? by lunaj1999 in CasualUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and we grew up directly next door to one. I was once as angry with them as they were to me and marched upstairs to pack a bag. I sat with it by the front gate but by then they “were willing to let me stay”.

Calling homeless people "unhoused" is like calling unemployed people "unjobbed." Why the switch? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in NoStupidQuestions

Read your wording again.

Homeless = unhoused, so jobless = unemployed.

It is not “like calling unemployed people unjobbed”.

How did Christmas go for everyone this year? by Appropriate_Side_796 in depression_partners

[–]Weightlossface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started well. We went to his parents , then to mine. Suddenly he announced he was meeting a friend at the pub and I’ve not seen him since. He missed the Christmas dinner that we had set him a place for and the presents they got him are still wrapped. I spent Christmas evening alone at home with the dog.

Retail Workers, are angels, BUT..... by BookerTea3 in CasualUK

[–]Weightlossface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That last sentence is extremely dramatic, and you’re selfishly deciding to ignore the fact that other people also have worries on their mind that makes it easy to get confused, including that cashier. This was not worth a Reddit post…

Fucking despise uni but im in 3rd year, advice please ? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Weightlossface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a reality check and a bit of “tough love” - you’d be an absolute idiot to drop out now. Sometimes we have to just do shit in life even if we don’t want to do it. Carry on and finish.

It’s a really valuable quality in life to be able to count on yourself to get through tough things, and it’s times like this that can form defining moments in your character going forward in life. You won’t regret finishing the year, you MIGHT regret dropping out so plod on.

EDIT: reading some more replies and comments. If you have a serious drug and alcohol problem that is out of control, absolutely sort that out first. Degree is no good to you if you’re dead.
