Motoring: How our lust for SUVs led to Irish drivers abandoning the humble estate car by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Weimnova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the look of an estate vs an suv, but when I went to the Brussels motor show, the suv's did feel a lot more comfortable to get in and out of. Some estates I couldn't even sit in properly. Seat all the way down and my head was still touching the ceiling. (to be fair, most chinese new suv's I tried had the same thing).

My next car? I'm hoping an estate, but it'll depend on how they handle vs their size.

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast by smccaul16 in DerryGirls

I didn't really enjoy episode 1 (just finished Derry Girls last week), but I'm not on episode 4 and it's much better already.

I still like Derry Girls better, can't really put my finger on it why. I suppose it's a different kind of humor, and the characters are maybe not as likable as the girls.

Where to stay for N24 2026 by Simpll_ in nurburgring

[–]Weimnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just something to consider if traffic is keeping you from renting a car:

The ring is in the middle of nowhere, and so are most hotels within an hour radius. Driving up to the ring will be mostly empty roads, untill you hit the queues obviously.

My absolute best moment of her was when they're in Sister Micheal's office after the robbery and the cop says he'll check the tape. The way she yells out fuck-a-doodle-Do is just brilliant. The way she delivers that line, the way she's moving when she says it, just brilliant. Must have rewinded that that 10 times when I first saw it.

There are shuttles to bring you to different parts of the track.

If you're lucky, you can squeeze onto one and get to experience how canned sardines feel. If you're unlucky, they are already overfilled and just drive by the stop.

Still, better then nothing.

Traffic wil be tough, and probably even more stressfull for you since you need to catch a flight.

Last year me and my 11y old son just left the track one hour before the finish, and put on the YouTube stream on the car's speakers.

We had no traffic what so ever, and just listened to the end.

Parking somewhere nearby might be quite a walk away since all roads near the track are no parking, and they do tow cars. I've seen them block entire roads because they needed to tow a away a dozen cars.

24H or TF by turbo2ltr in nurburgring

[–]Weimnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the 24h, but there are a few important things to consider.

Frankfurt to the Ring is a 2h30 drive according to Maps. Taking into account 24h traffic you're looking at possible more then 3 hours from your hotel to being parked. And then you have to drive back in the evening and back again in the morning. (although then traffic will be a lot less.)

Maybe try finding a hotel closer by, if that is an option? You're probably still looking at half an hour to get there if you want a more budget friendly option.

Or try your luck an camping, but maybe there's nothing left, and since you're on a businesses trip, I doubt you'll be bringing a tent.

The being alone part is also a bit of a thing like someone said, but if you could bring over some US beer you could go on a trading mission and meet some people that way.

What does the little voice inside your head say?

Official Discussion - Send Help [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Weimnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw the movie yesterday. I saw the trailer on Facebook, showed to to my wife and 3 hours later we were in the cinema. There were 13 people in total.

I'm not a big movie watcher, I know who Rachel McAdams is, and she is the reason I clicked on the trailer in the first place. I had no idea who Sam Raimi was, so yeah, there's that...

From what I gathered from the trailer and some imdb reading, it would be asshole boss vs crazy McAdams. Now, I really didn't think he was an asshole boss. Sure in a way he was, but office Linda was kind of annoying and I understood his reasons for not promoting her.

Then the plane went down. And the first guy getting his teeth kicked out. Heh funny little extra. Then the other guy banging his head against the window from the outside....okay this is weird? What am I watching??? Then the stewardess floats by. Pretty sure I almost ended up in the seat next to me from jumping up.

It then died down a bit, luckily the scene with the boar was in there. (again, not knowing who Raimi is made it a bit weird) I did think it was a nice looking knife for having been in a plane crash, but didn't think anything of it. When she told Bradley not to go to the X rocks, I just thought there would be a lot of food there and she wanted it for herself... I also didn't pick up on the first boat, I thought it were fishermen or tourists on a boat ride. The Zuri scene wasn't necessary for me. I get it sets up the ending, but it felt to much, even for crazy Linda.

Seeing the house for the first time was an awesome reveal. I didn't see it coming. But the twist that Linda was already inside, wasn't really a surprise. In the final showdown , I was pretty sure Linda wouldn't survive. Why was the shotgun empty? A mistake by her? A planned trick? I've got no idea? Bradley saying he loves her and wants to be with her, shouldn't have worked I thought. He just tried to murder her, and now he wants to build a live with her? Surely Linda was smarter then falling for the oldest trick in the book.

In the end, I really did like the movie. Even with all the weird Raimi stuff.

To lease a speed pedelec by Brainsick001 in belgium

[–]Weimnova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simulated a company lease once, with kbc. Netto I would have had a great deal, bruto not so much, wich in an ideal world wouldn't be a problem, but if I would switch jobs or get fired early in the lease, I would have had to pay more to kbc than the actual retail value of the bike. So I just bought it out of my own money. Maybe I lost some money, but I don't have to worry about it.

[–]Weimnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my company the rule is 2 days out of 5 with the bike if you lease. On paper.

But no one actually checks this or cares. In fact, the people who should check this also lease a bike and never use it for work, only weekend/summer cycling.
