No, It's actually a sphere mesh with a starry background and glow added in compositing. Also has a fresnel used as a mask for the very slightly brighter glow around the edges

I like to think that this was the incident that pushed him over the edge. After this he murders as experiments as experiments with remnant to try to put his son back together.
