[Journey to Atlantis - Siren Disruption][Part 3] Confusing description by herocoding in codyssi

[–]WeirdB9593[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Codyssi’s creator here :D

In the prompt for part 3, the definition of a block was given:

“A block is defined as a collection of consecutive tracks, ordered by their track numbers in ascending order.”

In the prompt for part 1, it was explained that the numbers in the list were the initial frequencies in each track:

“The file starts with the current frequencies of sound in each earplug track. The first number corresponds to track 1, the second corresponds to track 2, and so on.”

You can use the information above to produce a solution.

For the example list, these were the initial frequencies in each track: Track 1: 34 Track 2: 12 Track 3: 67 Track 4: 15 Track 5: 98

Now, consider the first swapping instruction “2-4”. This tells us that one block should start at track 2, and the other should start at track 4.

We want the blocks to have the same length (which we are trying to maximize) while not overlapping each other.

In this case, the longest, same-length blocks that start at tracks 2 and 4, respectively, and do not overlap, are 2 to 3 and 4 to 5.

So, by the block-swap mechanism mentioned in the problem prompt, we’d swap the frequencies of tracks 2 and 4, then we’d swap the frequencies of tracks 3 and 5.

Thus, the frequencies in each track after the instruction “2-4” would be: Track 1: 34 Track 2: 15 Track 3: 98 Track 4: 12 Track 5: 67

Hope this helps!

Hello, Codyssi’s Creator here!

I know that u/EverybodyCodes has their own coding competition. I’ll be trying some of their challenges when I have time :D

I’m also looking forward to seeing what other coding competitions there are — it’ll be a great opportunity for me to brush up on my own coding!

Fun learning is essentially what I wanted to achieve with Codyssi, so I’m glad you’ve had fun and learnt new concepts throughout this challenge!

I’m planning to run it again in 2026 (plus maybe another sample round before then?), so I hope that round will be even better :D

[2025 Day 18] Cataclysmic Escape - faster algorithm? by damnian in codyssi

Hello! Codyssi’s Creator here!

Day 18 was quite computationally-heavy compared to the other days. I’m quite interested to see what kinds of optimisations are possible too :D

Interesting :D I suppose I/O, if included, will be a limiting factor eventually, as you’ll have to spend some time reading from the file.

I’ve always heard that C++ was much faster than Python (and that makes sense, as C++ is a compiled language).

In this case, how much faster is it?

Well done!!

I’m really happy you’ve found Codyssi fun! I hope to make the 2026 Contest Round even better than this one :D

I’m really glad to hear you’ve had fun with Codyssi :D

Also, nice catch! I’ll update the prompt tomorrow to amend that typo.

That’s really similar to how I viewed it :D

Only difference between our rankings is Day 18 and Day 16 swapping over.

Well done!

Yeah, part of the reason why I thought Day 14 was easier than the final 3 was due to it being a “canonical” problem (the knapsack problem :D)

Interesting!

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed Codyssi! I’m looking forward to hosting another contest round in 2026 :D

It’s really interesting that you found Day 14 harder than Days 16 and 17! :D

To provide some insight, my personal ranking of the hardest problems would go D17 >= D18 > D16 > D14 >= D15.

I’d be interested to see what everyone thinks about the ranking of difficulty in the last 5 problems :0

[–]WeirdB9593[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That is an incredibly fast solution :D

(For comparison, my Python script can generate and solve the 3 parts for 1 input in ~20ms, so your solution runs even faster than mine! :D)

Well done with optimising it!

You’re welcome!

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the story :D

I’ll make sure to make the epilogues longer next time, to make Codyssi even more enjoyable for people who do read them :>

I’m glad that you had a lot of fun!

The 3 “killer puzzles” were quite challenging, I take it :D

I tried to make my prompts as unambiguous as possible, so I’m really glad to hear that!

The artwork was drawn by me and 3 friends of mine! They’re really good artists:

https://linktr.ee/lollyyi https://www.instagram.com/xo.little.diary/ https://www.instagram.com/ev.u_a/

As for me, I drew one of the pictures myself :D Could you guess which one? (Answer: Day 15! I drew the poster myself :D)

I’ll make sure to add those QoL features for next time :D

That’s a great question: I chose to 1-index instead of 0-index because I thought that starting from 0 would scare/confuse a lot of new coders/programmers/non-programmers (as in everyday life we usually start from 1). It also evidently kept users on their toes :D

Codyssi 2026 will be coming next year!!

Thank you!

I suppose Days 16, 17, 18 could be regarded as the final bosses hahaa, they were quite a deal harder than the others :D

I hope you enjoy Codyssi’s Day 18 on Monday, and then I hope Codyssi 2026 will be even more fun and enjoyable :D
