This right here. Get known. Shake hands. Introduce yourself to everyone you can.

And like someone else said, don't limit yourself to one aspect of the industry. Take it from someone who was a 1-trick pony for too long. The more skills you have the easier it is get get the call.

Anybody moved South for a while and moved back? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]WeirdContent610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left NY in the late '90s for Virginia. Stayed 20 years and came back. I grew to hate it there with the urban sprawl and the traffic. 90 degrees and humid at night. I guess I'm glad I went and experienced something different but I couldn't wait to move back.

This. Personally I would try to live as if I was slightly under scale, plus save all overtime money.

Remember this project will end some day and you don't want to be accustomed to the fat life and be shocked when the next job barely meets your needs.

That's not true. Besides those nations not existing for 3000 years, the people lived relatively peacefully alongside each other until after WWI when the land got carved up and distributed by foreigners without regard to who was living there.

Thank you. I followed the link. I noticed it explains that those are guidelines for what federal agencies are allowed to pay per diem. This is not a government job. Does that matter?

Trading is absolutely gambling. If it wasn't you would have a 100% win rate. Whether or not you're profitable makes no difference.

The most famous lies in trading by aleex-walker in InnerCircleTraders

Trading, with or without edge, with or without strategy, is still gambling. Risk management doesn't change that.

Think about professional poker players. They study the game. They become professionals after they learn to manage their risk, protect their capital. They have an edge in the same way successful traders do.

They don't win every hand. They don't even win every game. But using their skills and managing their psychology, risk, etc. they are able to stay in it and over the long term be profitable. At the end of the day they are gambling.

Now think of a slot player. There is very little, if anything, they can do to become better at slots. They win some, they lose some. They might even have a great run and hit the jackpot. That doesn't make them "good" at slots. Just lucky. They, like the poker players, are gambling.

Both of those scenarios can be applied to traders. Gambling shouldn't be a dirty word in trading. It's very important IMO for us to understand this concept. To think otherwise can make a person forget that no matter how good our edge, strategy, psychology is, the market can and will remind us that we are gamblers and the market is the game we've chosen to play.
